EWU might need a new coach

The only sad part about this thread is that it isn't talking about Montana getting a new HC.

Pflugrad had a bad 1st year at the Griz helm, missing the playoffs for the first time in a generation. But as famous ESPN broadcaster Lee Corso says, "Not so fast...". Pflugrad followed it up in his 2nd year with a semi-final appearnace. So, Not So Fast in judging Delaney.

I'm willing to put last year behind us and hope for a better 2013.

I sure don't remember them finishing NINTH under Phlugrad.

Different conference members. Different offseason distractions. Different number of starters returning, etc. Apples to Oranges. We could sit around and sound like the Real Housewives of Missoula, or enjoy your family and friends this holiday season and let the coaching staff recruit and coach since none of our kvetching is going to change anything.

About that, you are 100% correct. However, I think most of us saw some reason for hope following Pflugrad's first season, disappointment that it was. I think very few of us see much reason for hope looking ahead to the 2013 season. I do hope I'm wrong, but it's been many, many years since I felt this way about an upcoming Griz football season.

I must be a hopeless optimist then. I see a year of experience for what was probably one of the youngest defences we have ever started. I see most of our offense coming back. I see our kickers coming back. I see all of our coaches with a year more of experience. I saw a team beat a national semifinalist team(ewu) on the road up and down the field only to fumble twice in the red zone and have an onside kick bounce perfectly. I saw a quarterback/receiver in North Dakota get in the zone and have a record day. I saw a bonehead special team call against Southern Utah. I saw a spirited effort by our defense, but a better one by MSU in the cat/griz game. I saw 4 interceptions against NAU. I saw a great effort on the road against App St. I saw ups and downs, but I saw ups that can be built on and downs that can be corrected. Most of what I saw was grizzly pride by our players and coaches in the face of horrible adversity. I think next year's schedule may actually be tougher than this years, but I am optimistic that this team will grow and mature and make us proud. Check that, more proud.

Oklahoma Panhandle State will be a daunting challenge after they get off the bus.

strange to note people on this board talking about how difficult our schedule is when we are actually playing in a conference of community colleges, maybe one step above Division2..maybe.

I'm working just 20 minutes from their campus. Drove down to the campus and their field. Took a few pictures. Their "stadium" reminds me of something from the NAIA....but then too they were recently in the NAIA I think

We all remember the good old days as being better than they were. Here is a prediction thread about the 2011 season. An interesting read, especially the tributes to Jim O'Day:

Kadeezy, your prediction is exactly the same as mine. Don't like agreeing with folks I know are putting down UM, but it does seem appropriate in this case.
Not much optimism there.

Wow, to be quoted TWICE in a single post, from a couple years apart. You had to do a lot of searching to find those comments. Anyway, I stand by what I've said, both past and current. I may not always be right, but that's how life goes. I've been a Griz fan for 50+ years, have never changed teams, no matter what happened on the field. For me, 2011 was a wonderful, totally unexpected surprise; perhaps 2013 will be the same....

That is what I am going with. I am hopeful for a great maturation of both the staff and the players.

My prediction on the next years season (forget coach Baldwin) I see the Griz win percentage over 70%.

Why?

Coaching staff have had a full year to organize. Get used to each other. Understand what each is trying to do. Even coach Delaney gets up one notch after doing such a poor job last season. Delaney will be much much better this coming year. He has had an entire year to get used to being a head coach, running things, knowing what the assistants are good and not good at.

Enter the players. They are good. Some not great but good with much upside potential to become great. Our QB position will be better. We have two young guns that can be great and we have not seen much of. This should be the surprise of the 2013 season (QBs). Corners have come on. Our lines on both sides will be good. Running backs? We are loaded. Safety will be much stronger this year. Punter and kicker are now begining their second year and both will be much better for 2013.

Don't let these doubting people get you down about our team. It will be much improved from last season. You can take that to the bank! NCAA and all the other investigations? More hot air blowing out of Hellgate canyon.

Baldwin the coach? He is good and I expect him to move on soon.
