EWU @ Idaho Game Thread

Shanked punt by ID. EWU ball on ID 36. Oops = 5 yrd false start.

Dither, then too far for FG. Forced a pass on 4th down = intercepted. ID ball 27.

EWU forced a punt. Ball on EWU 28. Good pass = 1st down at EWU 47.

Kinda boring here -- back and forth.

FWIW: Sac State, which looked like it was getting blown out, has cut the lead to 9 pts, 6 min left in Q3. Hornies make a stop, ball at their own 30 after punt and return.

Yeah, a little boring so far. You can definitely tell it's the first game of the season...and you can definitely tell it's Padron's first game as an Eagle. Not totally clicking so far. Still, Kaufman is at over 100 yards receiving at the half and EWU has double the offensive yards of Idaho. They've really only had play which led to their FG which ultimately came off a penalty on a punt. Idaho's offense doesn't look that great so far and I am hoping they don't suddenly wake up in the second half.

Either way, I hope we can hang on for a boring win.

Halftime: 10-3 EWU. Padron (EWU QB) is just 9 of 22 and they only have like 40 yards rushing -- but ID is even more pathetic.

FWIW: McNeese beat FBS Mid Tennessee 27-21 (but Mid-Tenn is really bad!).

48 yards. First game of the season and we are also missing our feature back. Like I said our offense doesn't look great but it is an FBS team and we do have double their offensive production so far. I think Padron will be a good QB once he settles in and is more comfortable with the system.

Unless the V-duds come out on fire (which I suppose they might), I do not see much changing. Padron, even though he is less than 50% in completions, has almost double the ID pass production alone. I'm only following the ESPN gamecast, plus a few video snippets, but I don't get the feeling that ID is wearing your guys down -- which might be their only chance.

If the Eagles beat the Vandals tonight, I would think that would be the Nail-in-the-coffin for UI and Vandal fans would be put on suicide watch.

They're getting a pretty good pass rush on him at times, but the good news is he's handling it pretty well. Very good pocket presence, doesn't get rattled. His completion percentage would be better if we hadn't had so many blatant drops. Even the int was a deflection off a pass that was right in Herd's hands.

The biggest thing I am taking away is our defensive front seven look very good so far. A couple sacks and haven't really given up a whole lot on the ground considering how much they are running. And I agree they are going to try to wear us down, so we'll see if that line can hold up.

You would think so, unless they put it behind them and go on a tear afterwards. They have been told -- in WAY more blunt terms than politicians usually employ -- not to come back to the state for more money to help their athletics. Same way trying to raise student fees for sports would be crushed. But Idaho is full of UI fans (naturally), and they might not be willing to see V football go away. But -- honestly -- I almost think they would do away with football rather than suffer the humiliation of dropping down to 1-AA (or worse).

EWU interception deep in ID territory. Good running for 1st-and-goal at the 10.

Dang, could not punch it in. Still: FG, EWU leads 13-3. Kudos to the Eags, but the V-duds are truly pathetic.

According to the tweets on "VandalNation," at least half the crowd(?) vacated at least ten minutes (game time) ago.

Oh, and they think Padron is pretty good. (But he's still only like 10-28.)

Wow, that's pretty sad that roughly half of the crowd left with so much time on the clock... but I guess when your team is playing terribly...

This Vandal team would be beaten by 3-4 BSC teams. At least.

I had no idea they were this bad.

Perhaps jumping the gun ... but I suspect not.

TD EWU. They lead 20-3, with 12:49 left in the game. Normally, you would not consider that an insurmountable lead, but ... in this case ...
