EWU fans are pathetic

Obviously, I'm disappointed that the Griz are not in the playoffs but this was not the case this year nor did we deserve to be there.

My rant today, however, is about the EWU fans. I watched the game last week and saw half empty stands. I chalked that up to Thanksgiving or finals or whatever. I'm watching the game tonight from my home in SC on ESPNU and see the same thing! Come on, Eastern fans, it's the SEMIFINALS! You'd never see that empty stadium in Wa-Griz. It makes all the Big Sky look bad.

Say whatever you want about Montana but our fans are the best. Come rain or shine, cold or colder - we'd always be there screaming our lungs out. I'm proud to be a Montana fan!!!
You and your thread are pathetic... :egriz:

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that EWU is the 3rd most popular team in the state? Unlike in our state, Washington's two most popular programs lie in the PAC 12.

It has something to do with the fact that EWU is FCS. Everyone wants to compare to Montana, but Montana is an exception to the rule. The crowd at EWU are representative, and maybe even exceed the norm.

I'll agree with that, but most states get behind their flagship universities, ours happens to be FCS. Hopefully we can give our fans something to cheer about the next few years, because right now the only thing we have to talk about is our attendance being great. I want to start competing into December and January again.

It is what it is. Eastern plays in Wazzu's back yard (and they made a decent bowl game this year), Gonzaga is currently 11-0 in basketball and ranked 8th in the country, the Washington Huskies are in the college football playoff, the Seahawks are a superbowl contender, and the Seattle sounders won the MLS cup. Eastern is considered very small time in this state unfortunately and it is what it is, that will never change.

Props to the university and athletic department for being so good with such little support...

Actually, it has everything to do with the fact that EWU is FCS.

The NCAA has not yet posted attendance figures for 2016, but they’re not likely to have changed much from last season. The average home attendance for all FCS teams in 2015 was 7,652. By comparison, FBS teams averaged 42,293 in home attendance. You can look at the numbers a lot of different ways. The average attendance for all those FBS teams was nearly double that of the best FCS team (the Griz) and more than double for the #2 FCS team. In fact, the Griz would be #84 on the FBS attendance list. And for all its wonderful success on the field, North Dakota State would have been #106 on the FBS list. How about this: The worst home attendance among FBS teams was still better than 37 FCS teams.

You could go on, but it would only prove the basic point. Low attendance is the norm for FCS football … and even anomalies like the Griz and a few others are not that impressive in the overall context of Division-I football.

First off, Congrats to Eastern for making it as far as they did. And Congrats to theirs Seniors and to those Seniors we will be seeing on Sundays. I would bet Cooper Kupp will end up making sizeable donations to the eagles in the future that will help their program grow.
Second if you complain about another teams fans, it only makes you look bad.

 I hadn't thought of how good Washington has it right now. AND, Eastern was in the FCS semifinal game! 2016 was good to Washington.

Clearly people read what they wanted to read so let me just say this and then I'm done posting. In this order, I'm a UM, Big Sky, FCS and then college football fan. I do not watch the NFL anymore. Too many hot dog players. Last night I watch NDSU-JMU and rooted for NDSU. I saw their (albeit indoor) stadium rock. Tonight, I'm cheering for EWU. There are no sour grapes because UM is not in it. EWU has a great team. All I'm saying is that I'd expect such a good team to have better fan support. You can talk about UW all you want but I'd think a team on the verge of going to Frisco would have be packing them in. Go Eagles and goodbye.
You would think so but you would be wrong. Unlike most on here I have attended numerous playoff games in Cheney when we didn't make it. Not only are the fans mediocre at best they have zero clue when to cheer and when not to. I have watched their fans yelling like crazy while the eagles are in the redzone and nothing while the opponent is going in to score. Not sure what the fuck is going on here.
During the playoff games I have been to not once has the stands on the other side ever been even close to full. It boggles the mind that that is the case. As most of us know the only time that place is packed is when the Griz play there. I believe it also has to be the reason that the Great Boondoggle never came to fruition.

^You are spot on, Montana doesn't have all of those things. The Griz are easily the biggest draw in the state. Rightfully so, there is nothing like a Saturday afternoon at WA Griz
