I don't agree that Bobby and the coaches don't understand the current environment. They do. What's your evidence that the current staff doesn't understand the current environment? So far, the UM players don't leave in droves. UM has been doing well in the Portal. Even top players with supposedly high value, like Gubner and Bergen, have stayed. Gillman so far.One thing I do agree with is that the current coaching staff does not understand the current environment of the sport they are coaching or this generation of kids.
I’m a Bobby supporter but I have my doubts if he can ever figure this part out. Many coaches are doing more with much less. I think someone like Plough would get to Montana and say “my god. I have all of this to sell kids” and dominate. I don’t necessarily think Bobby has ever done that.
Note that, generally, the MSU athletic budget is a bit higher than UM's. UM hasn't fallen back. MSU has caught up and is certainly on par as a football team. UM still has better facilities, but that could change a bit too. The MSU stadium atmosphere will never catch up with UM's, unless they start from scratch with a ton of money.Look from a FB standpoint the Griz used to own the scats for like what 16 years in a row.. We stood tall in the BSC as well. Millions have been poured into to WA Griz and fhe Champions center.
But overall the FCS as a whole has caught up talent wise, being players and coaches. Many are doing this with far less and spending far less.
They are building to be what the Griz are and have been.
We are trying to hold onto what we have and had. I personally think that more difficult than trying to build to be better.
I would much rather see us build to be better in say the Mountain West Conf. We would be the ones building to catch up to teams in that conference and in reality to teams in the new PAC12.
I don’t doubt that Bobby likes the players. And this isn’t just directed towards Bobby.I don't agree that Bobby and the coaches don't understand the current environment. They do. Did you see Bobby tearing up as he was hugging and talking to each of the seniors as they were introduced on senior day? He loves those kids. Ya, he can push them and be hard on them during their playing days, but most still respect him and almost all come to respect him and even like him after they leave. He's not as much of a hardass as he was when he arrived just over 20 years ago. He royally pissed off the starters and good players that first year, when he said they would have to compete for their jobs. My recollection is that every single one of them competed and started. I knew about half of the two-deep back them, and many are still my friends. I don't think any of them love him. I never liked my college head coach either when I played for him, but later changed my view on him. Some head coaches are liked by their players, but a lot aren't. It's just the way it is.
Agreed 100%. I got called a bad fan for making that point earlier in the season. Also no we did not do well in the portal at all this year. We didn’t bring in a single talent that was as good or better than what they needed to replace. Edwards was better than everyone we brought in as an example.
It had nothing to do with the point...Agreed 100%. I got called a bad fan for making that point earlier in the season.
Well it was my own thread, with my own point, so I think it did.It had nothing to do with the point...

Your 2d paragraph is not correct. You are the one who should get up to speed on what's going on now.I don’t doubt that Bobby likes the players. And this isn’t just directed towards Bobby.
I think Bobby and his system worked great for a different generation of kids. The authoritarian military general style. The generation today just does not function well with that type of leadership style.
He and more importantly his coordinators seem to believe that the system is the system and everybody just needs to rep the system. Where more modern coaches adjust and make sure when they have special players those players get the ball. I think the military authoritarian style works to a degree for a HC. Not coordinators tho.
He also seemingly refuses to completely use all of the tools available to make obvious how amazing it is to be in this program. He closes off and acts guarded with media and the like. He and many others in the athletic department view it as more of “you’re lucky to get to be at Montana”. Which yeah they are. But with today’s portal they don’t have to be. And they can move around.
I think what we saw last year was just perfect lightning in a bottle for Bobby’s philosophy and his staff. A ton of 5-6 year guys. Who have played a ton of football in this system. And all we needed was a QB that could come in and not mess it up. And it worked perfect. All the way to Frisco.
Most college football programs are not going to ever see that scenario again.
Also no we did not do well in the portal at all this year. We didn’t bring in a single talent that was as good or better than what they needed to replace. Edwards was better than everyone we brought in as an example.
You’re living in a delusional state. Literally nothing about how this season has ended up proves what you’re saying. We look worse at every position on defense. Many of which were filled by transfers. They filled holes with lesser talent. Great. That isn’t going to get us championships.Your 2d paragraph is not correct. You are the one who should get up to speed on what's going on now.
Hauck and the coaches have adapted the system. Again, you need to find out what's going on now. Jeez, they adapted the D system during the season in a big way. They changed the O in a big way last season.
The Griz did fairly well in the portal this year. They filled a lot of holes and got some depth. Edwards was not better than what we brought in and had with Nuce coming off injury, in my view. We are better at D-end this year. Edwards has done little or nothing at New Mexico State, especially in the last 4 games. His 4 sacks for the season came in one game against a weak team. He has 33 tackles, but only 7 in the last 4 games. No interceptions. He has 2 TFL's in addition to the 4 sacks. Last year, he has 35 tackles in 15 games, 11th on the team. Nuce and Lehrman have 33 and 32 tackles so far in 12 games. Harris has 43 tackles, 15 TFL's and 7.5 sacks.
In the Sagarin ratings, UM is 115 and NMS is 159. NMS is 3-8. Must be a fun season.
What you just said has nothing to do with your 2d para. When I counter what some of you argue, then you avoid answering and pretend we’re discussing a topic that hasn’t been discussed. I don’t think they are good tho. And the season proves as much. But that is always going to be the risk you take if we’re going to rely on heavy transfers to come in every year. With the portal now it’s looking like that’s the route Bobby and staff have chosen to go.What you just said has nothing to do with your 2d para. When I counter what some of you argue, then you avoid answering and pretend we’re discussing a topic that hasn’t been discussed. And Friz didn’t fill all
the holes with lesser take talent. Lehman is good. Nuce is good, but not a transfer. The Utah safety is good. The transfer lb is good. Not as good as Hill. The nose is decent but, of course, not Gubner. I wish the corner transfer hadn’t been hurt. No. 2 is a prior year transfer. The frosh corner is not a transfer but is good. I agree this year’s D is not nearly as good as last year’s D. The D is pretty good. Hopefully better on Saturday.
Wins and selective amnesia always seem to go hand in hand...!I agree that we missed the mark on this years portal class which is a shame cause our previous portal classes have all been good. Some have even been great like the 2021 class. This I would say is truly the first miss we've had in the portal. I think the only 2 really good ones are Klimczak and Otlewski. Beyond that, I've thought some of the younger guys that have played in backup roles have been better than the guys starting over them. Most notably on the Dline where I think Ramos and Mason have both been better than Pat Hayden. Lehrmann was a complete miss at DE and I think some young guys at that spot look promising.
Regardless, the seasons not over yet. We likely have 2 games left in the season and if this team could somehow go into Brookings next week and shock the world, then we may all forget about these conversations we're having right now.
And, another fact, is that in the last 4 season, after Hauck got going and got more of his recruits in, UM has the 4th best average post-season ranking and has gone to the playoffs each of those years and went to the national championship game last season. The Big Sky is a tough conference. The Big Sky and the MV got most of the top seeds. While conference play and ranking has some importance, it makes zero difference to me. For me, I want to be in the playoffs and a top team. Yes, conference rank is a historical fact, but it sure doesn't matter to me at this point.A chilling fact of Bobby 2.0 is where they have finished in the conference standings. 6th, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 1st, and 5th in his 6 years back at the helm. Couple that with a 2-4 record against the Cats. Bobby 1.0 is much different than the 2.0 version.
msdui is certainly waaaaay ahead in DOE investigations, systemic racism and arrests of football coaches. Congrats to ya, HT!!Everyone around here who still thinks it’s 1995 is part of the problem. I’m not only talking athletics as a whole. (8 brawl if the wild series in a row speaks for itself).
Institutionally MSU is on a different level and it’s not close. Enrollment alone (17,200>10,800)) is only one big factor. In my opinion the main reason for the rise of MSU is their president.
