Griz til I die

The broadcast team for the Griz vs. Idaho game on Saturday night on ESPN2 is Clay Matvick and Chase Daniel. Matvick has called one Griz game before back in 2021 when the Griz lost at Eastern on ESPN2. Daniel has never called a Griz game before and is relatively new to the broadcast booth. I don't believe I've watched a game before that he's been on the call for.

The Griz game will follow the Memphis vs. FAU game on ESPN2 that kicks off at 5pm. Memphis is very good and off to a great start at 4-0 (with a win over Arkansas), while FAU is 1-2 and and lost to FIU (ouch), so my hope is this game is over quick and the Griz game can start on time.

The Griz vs. Idaho game will go head to head with the BYU vs. Colorado game on ESPN. Gonna be tough to compete with that one ratings wise but the Buffs aren't very good this year and BYU looks excellent so maybe people get bored and will turn that one off and opt for our game instead. I'll be interested to see the ratings next week!

Found this on the internet today. Looks our broadcast team for the game called the Sam Houston vs. Texas game last weekend. They did a pretty good job.

If you don't have access to ESPN2, you can now purchase a day pass from Sling TV for 24 hours. It gets you their Sling Orange lineup which includes ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3 and ESPN4K.

Costs $4.99 for a day pass.

I'm giving it a try for the game.
That is good to know, better than $30 for the month. I'll have to use my wife's email, since I think I'm banned from sling.

Ha! I haven't tried it yet, but went so far as to purchase until they said the clock starts ticking when you buy. So Saturday morning it is.

I landed this afternoon in Missoula (here for a wedding…ggrrrrrrrr!!) with my son…hadn’t made it 39 feet into the airport and he was stopped and asked if he was Chase Daniel lol…he didn’t even know who that was…(he does look a lot like him tho…).

Been 8:15 since June
Yep, far as we know.

Here's the catch. As noted earlier, the Griz game follows the Memphis at Florida Atlantic game on ESPN2, which is scheduled to start at 5 o'clock. Our experience this year (with the way ESPN has loaded up on ads) is that 3 hours and 15 minutes won't be enough. (Sometimes it is, but more often not.) They will either force a later start time, broadcast it on another ESPN channel (tough luck if you don't get it), or move it just to streaming. Have no idea how this will play out, but be alert to the possibilities.

If anyone watched the games yesterday (or has watched any of the BSC ESPN channel games over the last several years) is pretty clear how this will work out. Around 8:15 the game prior will still be going, so they will move kickoff back 10 -15 minutes. The prior game still won’t be over so they will kickoff and 10 minutes into the game bewildered ESPN2 viewers will be told they can watch game on ESPNNews. Between 8:50 and 9:10 (after interviews and analysis of the game) they will switch the UM game over to ESPN 2. 12 people on the East Coast, 3 in central time (none voters in polls or part of the playoff seeding committee) will watch.

Yeah! We are on “national tv”

Beats the spinning “loading” wheel we saw repeatedly before the ESPN contract.

And I think you’re vastly under-selling the exposure. On the west coast, that’s prime time. And there aren’t 438 games to compete with. And where do we predominantly recruit again? Oh yeah. West coast.

I'm shocked that someone who has been a member of the board as long as you have would make such a gloom and doom post about the TV coverage these days. But maybe if you're local to Missoula you've always been able to watch the games on local TV and have never had to deal with what us out of staters have been dealing with for the past 20 plus years. The setup now is vastly superior to what we had for a very long time.

Except #25 BYU is playing Colorado at the same time on ESPN.

Well, I’m not suggesting we’re Monday Night Football here.

We’re the fcs for gods sake. We used to damn near orgasm if we had a 10 second highlight clip on espn. Now we have two games in west coast prime time, one highlighting the magic of WaGRIZ, and we complain about a late KO.
