I have heard Montana has offered Eric Carlson a 6-4 forward from Shakopee MN. Again I have not done a lot of research, but I hear again that he is a sharp shooting late blooing 2G/SF type. I think Montana is the first school to offer Eric.

here is alittle info on him

Montana is on Eric Carlson's short list. He is visiting North Dakota State this week and I beleive will be visiting Missoula shortly during one of the Griz home games. He scored 25 point a game last year.

i don't see that we had any more 'ships left for next year. i count three available, going to qvale, selvig and staudacher. staudacher is a walk-on this year, but he will certainly get a scholarship next year. no?

I do not think Staudacher is gaurenteed anything. The Griz are still out recruiting. From what I hear they are looking to sign a gaurd this spring. I could be wrong but that is just what I am hearing.

well, you know me, always always lookin' for point guards. with ellis graduating next year, and rundles the only true point guard in the program after him, i hope that's a priority. still, if staudacher is the long-range marksman we've needed since david bell left, i don't see how you could deny him a scholarship.

I think the idea isn't to deny him City, it is to have him earn it. Remember, he is the one that backed out on the Griz, not the other way around.

Of course, that is how we got Delvon Anderson back in the day, and that worked out pretty darn good.

and rundles the only true point guard in the program

Then what about Zach Graves from Sacramento, Calif? The UM web site speaks of him as a 'combo guard.' As his AAU coach says:.."His main skill is breaking guys down off the dribble....can really finish around the basket. He's also very good at finding the open man." At 6'2" & 185 lbs. that sounds like a pretty good description of a point guard to me.

Of course, there may be a difference between 'true' point guard & 'combo' guard (one that can also play the '2' position but what point guard can't?); it sounds like a very little difference considering #12.

well, gb1, i'm into basketball, not the holy redemption and moral purification of an 18-year-old kid who made a mistake. all kids in all all places make mistakes, and mostly they all deserve a second chance, whether in missoula or in bozeman. young mr. staudacher has already come up a great deal in my estimation simply by confronting his mistake rather than fleeing to any of the dozens of programs around the country who would have welcomed him not only with open arms, but probably a scholarship as well.

if he's anywhere near as good as advertised, i think this is quietly a huge coup for us because a deadeye downtown shooter is the great equalizer against superior talent. david bell is the only reason we beat stanford there during the kennedy era, and as good as criswell and matthews were for us last year, neither was a consistently reliable outside threat. i know b.c.'s big guys put the clamps on strait, but the real difference in that game was the their three-point shooting in the second half, when criswell, matthews and martin all went cold at the same time, while one of their kids who'd heaved bricks the entire tournament suddenly started making his shots. i think the return of steve sir makes northern arizona an even more formidable threat than eastern washington.

as for graves, wyominggrizfan, i'm always a bit skeptical when somebody is described as a "combo" guard, because it usually means he's really a two. you never heard john stockton, bob cousy, isaiah thomas or even magic johnson described as a "combo" guard.
from the description of his skills, mr. graves sounds to me more like a virgil matthews than a true point guard.

by the way, i'm surprised we haven't heard any more here about rat ball. if this were football, we'd have had a hundred reports by now about everything from how the players look to how long it takes them to lace up their shoes.

City,

I think you misinterpretedwhat I meant by that. First of all, he is getting a second chance. He came back partially because the UW Coach told him he didn't think he would ever play as a Huskie, then he looked at some other programs such as Pepperdine and ended up back in Missoula. So, he IS getting a second chance, and I am all for it. I applaud Tinks for not just handing/promising him a sholly. Nothing wrong with having accountablility in the program. Ryan has no problem with it, don't know why you seem to. Bottom line, we are both glad he is a Griz again. :thumb:

Talked to Ryan last night at the Roundball auction. He is deffinately jazzed about being a Griz and excited that he has four yrs. of elgibility. He has been doing a lot of lifting and according to Tinks is much stronger then before. Gus Chase and Matt Martin are roommates. Matt's attitude is off the chart. He is ready! Gus is feeling right at home in Missoula and Tinks thinks he will be a force from the get go. The whole team was dressed in tuxcedos and looked sharp. They introduced themselves and made us all proud that they are Griz. This team will make some noise.
