Ellis' TD Return

They were both at the out of bounds line around the 25-yard line on the ISU side of the field.

Whatever happened at the 26-yard line, the UM player (or two, if it was more than one) that got the personal foul call should be running up to the M today or similar discipline.

What I recall seeing was just the opposite of taunting. Ellis went into the endzone and placed the ball down like he'd been there before. He had nothing to do with the penalty and still some of you call him out??? C'mon!

Yeah, maybe they called him for imitating a rugby try...

Newell got called for lateralling the ball back to the refs with too much gusto.

Maybe getting too excited was on the BSC ref check list last week.
UR kidding....? Wow!
yep, I saw a ton of head scratching calls this weekend but after watching both games again Saturday night these two were right up there with the worst. nothing more than the refs insisting on being a bigger part of the game than they should be.

newell has scored many td's. every time he hands the ball to the ref. this time the ref was about 10 yards away and he flung it to him. underhanded. for us, it ended up being a non-issue as we kicked out of the back of the endzone anyway. however, after watching ellis td run, and seeing that the call was a personal foul negating a td...that is up there with the worst calls I have seen.

really, Really, REALLY over big sky officiating.

The ISU radio guys on the eversport feed indicated it was taunting before the TD, thus non TD. They didn't say who was doing the taunting and there was no replay to try to figure it out.

It was not taunting and it was not Ellis. It was at about the 25-yard line and had absolutely nothing to do with the "play" and the touchdown.

Ellis is always dong something he doesn't need to do when crossing the goal line.He needs to just play the game, shut up and hand the ball to the ref.

Ron I don't know where you see this. I see a kid playing with emotion and enthusiasm. He didn't taunt and laid the ball on the ground in the end zone.

The penalty was not related to him in any way and the referee announced it as a personal foul but did not give the number of the player who committed it.

He isn't. Saw it on tv, forcibly underhanded the ball to the ref who was 15 yards away or so, flag came out immediately. Newell and the cats were really surprised, he got a flag for apparently throwing the ball back to the ref too forcibly...

Again, that tool shed is such a shitty place to watch a game, I did not see a flag (it could have been hidden by the stands or in that illegible logo they, whatever). And there's no way you could hear anything the official said. But I SWEAR he pointed both directions, indicating off-setting penalties, which would mean either a re-kick (assuming the penalties occurred prior to Ellis crossing the goal line), or the TD is good (if they occurred after the conclusion of the play).

In either event, it was another classic F-up by bsc officiating.

And yes, so was the Newell deal.

From what the new intern broadcaster that filled in for the color guy, who left for the womens bball game said.....it sounded like a Griz away from the play taunted an ISU player.

Terrible call if that is what it was called on......
Terrific Return for Ellis and the team. Thank God we are not talking about how that play cost us the W!
Go Griz!

I thought Delaney and cohort said it was a holding or block away from the ball that was pretty insignificant...but brought the ball back to the point of the foul.
This. The only place where I've heard it was taunting is on eGriz
Mick doesn't get everything right. I never saw a flag anywhere and I scanned the whole field as EH was crossing the goal line. Very suspect deal as many BSC calls are.

Mick said, "We do have a hold, I did not see that flag." Meaning he read the officials signal to the booth.

Stitt said in his radio show yesterday that there was a holding penalty called away from the play and possibly after Ellis was in the end zone. I believe he said the player might have been trying to put on a big hit to make the highlight tape instead of recognizing it had no impact on the play.

Thanks 96. More terrific officiating by the bsc.
