His says he doesn't think Montana was willing to deal with the burden of his depression/anxiety......

Not good to hear

He said not ready. That may be nitpicky on my part but I think there is a difference between ready and willing. There is a learning curve that comes with dealing with a player in his shoes and if UM isn't already prepared for that I can't really blame Ellis. I just hope for his sake that his life falls into place and he's able to have some consistency in it.

Great player, better person, huge loss. Thank you for your efforts at Montana and best of luck in the future playing football on Sundays and whatever career path you may choose!

Reminds me of that great decision by Sam Riddle declaring himself eligible for the NBA draft. Ellis is a talented player and I wish him the best, but my guess is he's going to have a rude awakening.

Seriously.....some people need to actually look at the whole picture before they post stupid shit.....

Would all of the anti-Stitt posters please remember to bookmark this thread. You can later make definitive critical claims on his wisdom and abilities from what appears to be murky and unclear slightly negative comments about the program.

You're welcome,
Ursa

+1

What are you his agent or his mother?? You're obviously too emotionally connected. I hope the kid makes it in the NFL, but the chances are slim. Most players that declare for the draft are projected high draft choices. Ellis likely won't even be drafted. Huge difference going in as UDFA. So instead of working on his skill and dealing with the reality of his grade situation he declares for the draft, the cocoon of the college football player is going to be gone and then he will be left without a degree, that's the most likely end to this scenario.

THIS: Henderson no longer felt like he belonged at Montana.

"When it comes to having a program rely on you, a team rely on you, and those problems arise with depression, it just becomes an uphill battle," he said. "If the organization understood the battle better, there wouldn't be as many issues. I don't think (Montana) was ready to deal with the burden of having a player with anxiety and depression.

"... That's not bagging on the program by any means -- I appreciate everything they've done for me -- but I thought it was time for something new."

AND THIS:
For now he plans to continue working out in Portland and Seattle with a weight lifted off his chest. Henderson is keeping his goals reasonable, though. A pick in the NFL draft, which begins April 28, is a long shot.

"I'm not expecting to get drafted," Henderson confided. "With my circumstances, it's a little unorthodox..."
Sounds like he's pretty clear on what he's doing & his expectations seem to be in order. This is a guy that if he came back re-writes the WR rec, ypc, tds and all purpose yardage in the record books.

He never got in trouble or caused issues off the field. Was always there for every fan & admirer post game or in the community. We didn't lose a great football player as much as we lost a great asset to the community. There has been few Griz like him.

Good Luck Mr. Henderson you deserve more out of life...

You got all that from a +1? Holy shit man... that's impressive.

Also, did you even read the article? This is much bigger than football and much bigger than a grades issue.

If you read the article he even says he doesn't think he'll be drafted (among other things that might make you understand his decision). I don't think Henderson is going into this with some preconceived notion that he's going to be drafted in the early rounds. He's doing what feels right to him and will hopefully prove to be the right choice.

As for him being left without a degree, you don't know the shit that he's going through. He's made a decision that he's happy with right now and probably takes a LOT of pressure off of him & makes it easier to deal with the shit he's dealing with. Depression that he's dealing with isn't just a "well why can't you just be happy" type of thing where a person can turn it off and on. There's a lot more to it. If he feels this is the right decision and it helps him out with that and helps him eventually (hopefully) achieve his goals of being a professional football player then good for him! I hope it works out!

I wish him the best of luck and hope he does catch on with an NFL team. Even more though I hope he gets the struggles he's facing under control. He was a hell of a lot of fun to watch here and we were lucky to have him!

The posts from this thread continue to demonstrate that the majority of people in this world do not understand mental health issues and the chronic nature of disease associated with mental health.
Good luck Ellis. You played hard, certainly earned every dollar of your scholarship, made Griz fans proud and hopefully you will persevere through the tough times life throws at you.

Well stated Copper Griz. This whole thread shows how little we understand about mental illness and the issues of treating and proper diagnosis of the different diseases that fall under the umbrella of mental illness. At this point it's for the best Ellis is in a place that he feels happy and can work on getting things in order. It should also force us to look into ways of helping people with mental illness and make sure the support is there.

Well said.

Good Luck Mr. Henderson. Hope your future is bright & includes a College Degree in the future. You are one hell of a Football player! Once again Good Luck in your future. Griz Nation salutes you! Thanks

Once again.....your post demonstrates that you don't know anything about the situation or the process...

That is total BS, they bent over backwards to help "coddle" him.

IMO to the point of ridiculous measures. He has to have some accountability even with his "medical excuse"
