Elgin-Taylor suspended

From today's Missoulian:

“He still has some academic issues to get sorted out,” Tinkle said. “I'm hearing Monday will be that day, when everybody's back on campus. If that is indeed the case, at that point we'll decide how we're going to move forward.”

I believe CET will be reinstated next week. He doesn't have three strikes. CET is a nice kid. Zirg, why do you post BS like that? I'm not sure basketball needs "fans" like you. Try supporting the team (including players), instead of dissing them.

Even in baseball, 3 strikes and you're out. If we ever let CET play again, I will walk off the court and never work another Griz B-ball game again. I have had it with allowing athletes to get away with murder. I have worked every Griz bball game for the last 18 years, but this is my last stand.
I think a lot of assumptions and conclusions are being made on CET by people with little or at best incomplete information. It sounds like this is down to an academic issue. Hopefully it will be resolved Monday.

What about his recent arrest on Domestic Disturbance issues that were reported on the Missoula CBS channel this past week?

Another griz "sweep under the rug" action? Pitiful

It was a non-event, didn't involve an arrest (to my knowledge), and was dismissed.

Pitiful is posters like Atlacat, who posts untrue statements and don't know what they're talking about in general. Troll.

who is gonna sell me a Griz dog then?? :thumb:

They don't sell Griz dogs in California ;)

Would we not jump to conclusions on CET and every GRIZ athlete, is that even possible?

I am not sure where CET lives, my guess is an apartment or dorms. Either way, it is does not take alot to disturb a neighbor. In those places a couple can be arguing in a respectful manner, with voices alittle louder than normal, and your damn neighbor thinks more is going on than there is.

Hell, cops have been to my apartments over listening to a football game to loud, and my buddies and I talking trash during a game. Nothing more than that, yet neighbors thought there might be something going on. Besides if CET had physically harmed a female, chances are likely it would not be labled as domestic disturbance. If they felt there was any potential harm to her, they would have at the least kept CET overnight at the jail.

My guess is the cops were called over for something. They checked it out. They asked questions. CET and whoever she is gave answers, and it turned out to be nothing more than a warning to settle whatever it was down. Pretty typical occurance living a multifamily unit.

Granted I could be wrong, but honestly feel if there more to this than that, more would be said. Plus I know 1st hand Tinkle nor O'Day would condone physical abuse to a female by any GRIZ. In my opinion, Tinkle is handling this similar to the way Chavez and Mayes were handled. All is fine with CET until I hear or see evidence proving more. Why are a few of you being harder on CET? Was it not 5 years ago when LEX supposedly had a domestic occurance where he and his girlfriend lived? We heard the news we did, very little of it was ever brought up again. LEX turned out to be an alltime great GRIZ, on and off the field. Do some of you have a bias that it is more acceptable for a instate GRIZ have minor trouble and it is more okay than an out of state GRIZ?

This is ridiculous, instate and out of state athletes get in trouble now and then. Yet more is made out of the out of state GRIZ! Britney Lohman gets in trouble for a DUI, she is disciplined and all is well later. Very few people made more of it than it was.

Why can we not give our GRIZ athletes the benefit of doubt and support equally? Does it really matter if they from Montana or not? Does it matter if they are male or female? Does it matter if they are Caucasian, African American, Indian, Hispanic, foreigner, etc? It is truely amazing how quickly some here are so quick to jump to conclusions or expect the worse. Thank God the coaches and AD's have more perspective than we do. If they did not have the proper perspective, there would be alot of schoolless kids that would never earn a degree. There would be very good stories such as Mike Chavez, Bryan Ellis, Stuart Mayes, etc. Some of us fail to realize the surroundings these kids all grew up in that formed who they are and how they react.

Are they all perfect? Hell no, just like us normal folk, they live and learn. They adjust and change what needs changed to better themselves. The majority of time these kids/young adults turnout just fine when all is said and done. Then again, I do not know why myself or anyone should defend and support these kids. After all, every single one of us never make mistakes now or when we were young.

Do you realize regardless of coach or sport, the closest thing many of these athletes have to a mother or father in their college years are their coaches!!!!!!!!! Do you honestly feel it easy for any coach to just write these kids off when they have troubles? Hell no, every coach has an obligation to that athlete and their family to be more than just a coach. They are trying to mold these kids into good caring people too. That is not done effectively by giving up on anyone!!!!!!!!!!!

Now can we please let time take its course, and consider more than just what you would do as a coach? I as a GRIZ fan feel fortunate to have coaches that truely care for these athletes beyond their athletic contributions. Thank you to every coach everywhere doing what they do beyond W's and L's. Thank you for caring for these athletes as humans too. I cannot speak for every program. I can speak for the quality of character and individuals we have manning our respective coaching jobs. I have no doubts in my mind that Selvig, Tinkle, and Hauck all care about their players. I know for a fact they take it hard when an athlete of theirs gets in trouble. In the end these coaches do what is best for each individual and the program!

Don't know if this constitutes as a "non event" or "arrest" but I do not read that charges were dismissed.

"A grizzly basketball player finds himself in trouble with the law yet again. Earlier this month Ceylon Elgin-Taylor was arrested for drunk driving. Now, he faces charges of partner family member assault, and criminal destruction or tampering with a communication device. Both charges are misdemeanors. UMs public safety captain Jim Lemcke says officers responded to a domestic dispute involving Elgin-Taylor on campus two weeks ago. A restraining order was filed against Elgin-Taylor on December 15th. Yesterday a judge dismissed that order after the person who filed it failed to show up for the court hearing. UM's athletic director Jim O'Day says Elgin-Taylor is currently on probation for violating the team's code of conduct, and for academic reasons. He said he does not know anything about the assault."

If indeed he or any GRIZ athlete were proven guilty of assault, then yes kick him off the team. However be there for the young man to see him through his struggles. Once again, we do not know the details of this charge. I have no idea what happened, the only people that know the truth are CET and his girlfriend. He nor anyone should not be penalized further if someone does not feel it necessary to pursue to the full extent of the law. It is possible, maybe things got heated, maybe he said or did something uncharteristic of himself, because of that she got scared. In time she may have realized she overreacted and CET did not harm her. That does happen now and then too, not just athletes but young people in many walks of life.

Show me proof of guilt for any GRIZ then I support booting them off the team. The times where the evidence was there to support guilt, the GRIZ have booted athletes. I do not condone assaulting anyone, I also equally do not support anyone being falsely acccused until the evidence is there to support that side. For me, Innocent until proven guilty. That has to be the way the university and coaches approach it too.

From the Associated Press:

"Campus police say that Elgin-Taylor was involved in a domestic dispute in December that resulted in a restraining order. A judge dismissed it earlier this week after the person who filed it failed to appear in court."

CET was on the bench in street clothes last night. He also stood with the team on the court during introductions.

SInce when is a DUI considered three strikes? Maybe I missed something but CET did not MURDER as you suggest! Don't be as pathetic as your Grizzly logo!

Not a huge fan of athletes that get away with everything in Missoula but I know for a fact that the assault charge was a completely bogus situation. There was a big argument between CET and his ex-girlfriend after she found out he was moving on, she saw that he and another girl were talking and flipped out. The kid's not an angel but he'd never hit a girl. He also filed a restraining order against her to keep her away. He's playing next game.

Enough BS speculation. The kid drove drunk and needs to get his grades up. Time to move on people. This story is over.

Is it speculation when it's fact???
He'll be suited up next game.

Is it Fact if it's written? All I know for FACT is that he drove drunk and needs to get his grades up. MOVE ON!

Good job researching your facts. I just called him to double check mine. He's suiting up next game.

I'm glad he's suiting up, but he drove drunk and needs to get his grades up.

Yes he did get arrested for driving drunk. And I believe he sat out a good amount of games as a suspension so I think the point has been made.

In regards to the grade problem, CET said that they weren't low but that, "[he] had to get something signed off and couldn't till monday." Pretty much he was lazy and didn't get a form signed before winter break and that resulted in one of his grades being postponed and that resulted in him having class missing from his report card. But everything is taken care of now and all is well in Griz nation. We won a big game without CET last night and I believe he has all his ducks in a row now so we will have a key player back on the court next game!

Go griz!

Robo, quick posting BS. CET was charged with a DUI, but that doesn't mean he drove drunk. If you did some checking around, you would find out that he wasn't drunk at the time of the stop.

As for the grade thing, read the thread before posting or get the facts straight. It has been posted several times that he took an incomplete and has to have the grade to be eligible. He grades are not too low.

Robo, have you ever posted something about basketball that was accurate?

I think CET will suit up next week, but that decision won't be made until this coming week. Explosive, you may want to check your facts. Also, I wonder if Jimmy Wilson will be looking for you in the future, for all the dissing you have done of him. Henkel's best friend, Griz athlete, presumably from Sentinel high. Shouldn't be hard to find you.
