Eastwood

Wow, amazing how far a few will stoop, after a tough loss! Rather than rag on the kid, how about looking forward to how he and the team react to that fumble, and the outcome of the game?

Chances are, we will see a slightly quicker, faster, more elusive, and stronger Eastwood next season. If we don't see improvement by him, then criticize him within reason. #redemption

eastwood shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as Chase Reynolds

...chase Reynolds had a beginning too like all of us who played the game..some good and some bad...
but hey you seem to know how Eastwood career will end up!

It doesn't take someone who "played the game" to see that he did not have a good year. Comparing them at this point is pointless.

You could tell Eastwood was devastated right after the ball was knocked out of his arms...he just laid on the ground staring at the sky.

A couple items to consider...

The kid is a frosh.

He will get stronger, faster.

He didn't quit with two weeks to go in the season.

He isn't causing problems off the field.

He will grow as a player and I'm guessing he will have the best ball security of any of our backs on the goal line for the next three years.

He is a turnover machine. He put the ball on the ground almost every god dam game for Christ’s sake. He should not be a starting running back at this level.

In the official stats, Eastwood is credited with 1 fumble and 1 lost fumble for the entire season. He is not a "fumble machine". Sneed lost 5. At least 2 were not his fault. Too many, tho.

Most of those are definite maybes. Until he learns to stop running up his linemen's backs, he ain't goin' nowhere. Color me unimpressed from Day 1.

The problem for him is that the linemen have routinely been getting pushed into the back field and into his running lanes which might be a factor of him running up their backs.

calhoun seemed to do ok.

I believe Reynolds was a receiver as a frosh and didn't get any stats. Moved to rb as a sophomore and started. Didn't he have 2 fumbles against the Cats in a losing game in Missoula? Agree that's he's near the top of the all time UM rb's.

Nice to post the facts PR thanks. Contrary to the haters myopic view of the game of football, Eastwood is not a turn over machine and he did not put the ball on the ground on every goddamn down. Some really silly comments that are so easily disproved. Some of the comments are becoming insufferable. Smh

Calhoun is for sure the better running back and he should have started or at least played more. I don’t understand the mentality for not doing that. :thumb:

RUSHING...................GP......Att...Gain........Loss....Net.....Avg...TD...Long....Avg/G....TD/Att
EASTWOOD, Adam....11......125...529........15.......514.....4.1....9....68.......46.7.......0.072
CALHOUN, Jeremy.....4.......41.....209........3.........206.....5.0....2....22.......51.5.......0.049
LEE, Alijah.................9.......30.....113........8.........105.....3.5....1....20.......11.7.......0.033

I think Calhoun is certainly the better back, but the people acting like Eastwood is terrible are just silly.

For comparison, here's Calhoun's stats from 2015-2017:
GP.....Att.....Gain.....Loss...Net.....Avg.....TD.....Long.....Avg/G.....TD/Att
31.....335.....1588.....58.....1530....4.6.....25.....65........49.3........0.075

Apart from the average per rush, that looks pretty dang close to Eastwood this year.

imo Eastwoods' biggest challenge is "vision"....he runs hard and is pretty quick. .... he runs where the hole is supposed to be, not to the open space on many of his attempts. (generally into a big pile of humanity)

He played pretty well yesterday before the fumble. Fumble wasn't completely his fault either. Yates blew up that play, wasn't slowed down much, and had his full force of power right into the ball. He still can't fumble in that situation, but didn't get much help.

Team loss.

I'm in your camp, 68. Not too impressed. He made some great runs with wide open holes, but I didn't see him salvage any plays, so to speak. I really feel for the kid after what happened, and I bet he never fumbles again in a Griz uni. I think he will improve, but we need a feature back for next year. It would be cool to have a 22-23 y/o grown man with a proven record taking handoffs next season, but, we don't play the long game in these parts unless we're talking about results with coaches.

Eastwood isn't as bad as you guys are making him out to be but our ol is horrible, its hard to run when you have no blocking. ANother plus about Eastwood is his ability to catch passes out of the backfield and know you can depend on him week after week. He never quit on his teammates like the other kid

Sure he should they both fumbled as freshman on the goal in the cat-griz game. True?

Um no, Chase actually fumbled twice that game, he was a senior. One of my favorite Griz players of all time, I'm sure to this day, those two fumbles still haunt him. He was playing with a very bad shoulder injury.

Reynolds was a senior, a banged up senior (shoulder) in 2010.

IMHO he does not hit the hole with authority. He is timid and is a liability. FWIW. Cut him and get someone who hits the hole hard and does not fumble. Our number 5 QB who plays as a QB as a freshman hits the hole harder. Watch the tape.

Thanks coach apps👉

Thanks coach apps exit stage right. Well I played the game and will not exit. I have coached and played and stand by my assessment. So there you go.. Did you watch the game. I did with DVR. Our Freshman QB (Graves) hits the hole harder IMHO. You may disagree per your post. The bobcat running back hits it with authority and drives till it’s done. Very Big difference and I wish we had him. Game changer. Would have won with him. In reality I don’t care what you say or think so save your diatribe.

Eastwood will only get better. He is physical and trucked a couple of Cats DBs which he has done to other DBs all season. One thing he does really well is catch balls out of the backfield. Some backs are good at this and some are not.
