I hate to say it, but I'd start Gfeller against Idaho and sit Gregory. Brandon has been playing pretty consistent lately.

Gfeller started the game tonight
Sorry I missed that. I'm hoping Gregory finds his shot. Having him hit his stride would be huge! Here's to the Griz rebounding against the spuds. GO GRIZ!!!!

...really like this coach...
...but question his timing...
...how he uses his timeouts...

... 8-) ...

Field goals made, this season

Breunig 131
Gregory 110
Dunn 61
G feller 50
Weisner 33
Krslovic 33
Kemp 20
Bradshaw 15
Lopez 14

3PM
Gregory 56
GFeller 46
Weisner 20
Dunn 14
I realize Gregory played great at the beginning of the season, but he's been less than stellar as of late. Again I hope it's just a mid-season funk and he'll find his shot. Griz definitely need him down the stretch.

Right now to means in the present - 2015. Swept in hoops tonight, four-game losing streak in football, including two losses in the same season. UM VB got swept in both meetings this fall. IN THE 2014-15 athletic season, Eastern owns the U of M. I'm not too proud to face facts. Congrats to the Eags on a huge road win tongiht.

EWU's athletics are quality and I don't see that changing in the foreseeable future.

Say what we will 'bout Cheney, they are doing something right over there. This ewu bb team has some quality players....beating Hoosiers no fluke!

griz, I hope you kick the crap out of the Vandals.

Congrats to you guys, lots of talent on your team. Seems everyone can knock down the three! Also, you guys are the first conference team to actually outscore the Griz in the 2nd half of a game I think.

As for the numerous boneheaded passes we gave away..... FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK!!

That said, close game like expected. I'm hoping we can get some shit figured out like how to not throw passes to the opposing team's fan section and opposing team in big games and maybe get a little revenge in Cheney later. Still looking like EWU is the team to beat in the Sky right now even though Sac has a lead on you guys.

I drove down from Kalispell today for the weekend. I cannot figure out this years GRIZ team. The GRIZ consistently start games slow. That was the case against EWU as well. EWU's defense did a marvelous job defending Gregory and Breunig. It looked to me they were not going to let that combo beat them. They forced rest of the GRIZ to beat them. Odd thing is, rest of the GRIZ did marvelous scoring. Great scoring/shooting from Dunn, Weisner, Gfeller, and Bradshaw. Unfortunately the GRIZ were very sloppy with ball as well. This was a strange game offensively. The GRIZ either got a great shot or they committed stupid, lazy, unforced turnovers. If I were Travis, I'd be chewing a lot of ass for lazy passes, not protecting the ball well, and just flat out not being aware out there.

Defensively, the GRIZ were also lackluster, inconsistent, and flat. EWU consistently got to the lane, got key offensive rebounds, and found wide open 3's. Defensive rotations were terrible, with players (mainly Dunn) losing assignments. Then again, that is because EWU moved the ball about as well as a coach can expect. EWU's ball movement was a clinic. The absence of Harvey actually was good for EWU. Why? Every time I watch EWU, the ball stops way too often at/with Harvey. He also forces a few too many shots. Without Harvey, they move the ball well, and their players are expecting the ball more. Harvey, is a player who can take over a game. When he returns, I hope he is more selective when to be a scorer and take over the games when his teammates are struggling. In my opinion, Brandon is a better team player and overall player than Harvey.

EWU was the better team this game. Unfortunately, the officiating was again inconsistent calling touch fouls. Two horrible calls going against the GRIZ. One call was on a baseline lay in attempt by EWU, Dunn whistled, EWU got a hoop and harm. Dunn touched nothing but air, no contact on the EWU shooter. At least that is how it looked from my seat. The other call was late when Breunig was called for an intentional foul. Yes, the GRIZ were trying to foul at that point. It was a foul, but no reason to call Breunig for a technical.

At least the GRIZ are becoming consistent of late shooting the ball. Unfortunately, the turnover bug and inconsistent defense cost the GRIZ this game. Those things absolutely have to be cleared up. Kudos to EWU for terrific defense on Gregory and Breunig, and phenomenal ball movement. EWU really impressed me. I feel they are better than Sac State. On the bright side, the GRIZ will get another shot at EWU this season.

Onto Idaho now. GRIZ cannot afford to drop a game to them at home. GO GRIZ!!!

I must have missed it. Gregory was introduced in the starting lineup.

Mick noted between the two teams at one point, four players from Australia. "I would've loved to hear those conversations." Aye, Mate!

Starting line up for awhile now has been, Dunn, Gregory, Gfeller, Krslovic, and Breunig.

It was. Griz have shown one thing throughout this season: great shooters, and this game was the best in terms of three pointers. They outshot EWU on EWU's specialty. Take note of that.

And then literally handing the ball to EWU.

Agree with GrizRule's analysis. Poor/lazy passes at times, including key times and late in the game. Poor perimeter defense too often. Jois' 4 or so offensive rebound in the early part of the game. Some weak calls by refs early in the game and later in the second half. The intentional foul against Breunig way out front was awful. Rule, don't think UM was fouling then. He just reached around from behind and slapped at the ball, when he got beat.

UM seemed out of sync early and then again in the last 8 or 10 minutes.

EWU is good. Played well, especially without their big gun. Shot well. Penetrated. Defended Breunig well. Made far fewer mistakes than Griz. I liked the EWU team. Not a bunch of showboaters. Hard, good and consistent play. Nevertheless, the Griz should have played better and beaten them.

Anyone know why Kemp isn't playing. He had some good games about when Breunig was hurt, then got sick and missed about 3 games, and has been completely out of the mix since then. Didn't play at all tonight.

Okay, then can GFeller start at 2 positions?

It was a close game until late. Turnovers for us and offensive boards for EWU were the difference. Hats off to EWU this time - they made the plays down the stretch.

All joking aside, hell of a game.

No expert here, wondering if those with a lot of knowledge can help. I've watched the last two games trying to figure out why we can't penetrate and noticed how few screens are set, both on ball and off ball. Has anyone else noticed this? I would have to presume this is by design (maybe for better court spacing?). Maybe screening isn't the answer, but the observation is clear; a direct pass to an open cutter is rarely seen.

It looks to me screens are more utilized to free up perimeter shooters. Gregory and Gfeller in particular get a lot of screens. Also many teams are collapsing the paint to contain Breunig. They prefer to challenge the GRIZ other players to beat them. On the ball screens have not been a big part of this offense. With that said, I would like to see more pick and rolls at the top of the key and the wing areas. Maybe even having Breunig play more high post would open the lane more.

Gregory seems to be pretty consistent getting into the paint though. He does it more on shear will and no fear attitude though. Gregory is strong and can take the punishment. Dunn should be penetrating more often. I really don't know why he does not look to create more often with penetration.
