Here's one thing I noticed in the first 4 games. Xavier Harris in the first 2 games scored a TD. His TD in the first game was what won us that game. A great play call to catch the defense off guard and he caught a 2 yd pass and did all the work running it and beating 2 defenders to the end zone for the go ahead score and win. He scored in our loss to N. Dakota on an adjusted route from a broken play.
Then we come to the last 2 games where Junior came back from injury so that pushed X out of the starting rotation. He maybe touched the ball 4 times in the last 2 games. Xavier Harris needs to be in the game along with Junior, especially when we are trying to throw the ball. He has that break away, scoring speed. But it's unfortunate that they don't use him more. Junior and X should always be on the field.

Bergen and Harris play the same position, so maybe just make Bergen and Harris stand next to each other and run the same route. Doubles the odds of getting a reception, and the hole where our other receiver should be will really confuse that defense!

That I could get behind. You know more about this than me. Is that viable under Pease and this offense, or are they against that 4 wr set? I'd assumed we would be maxing out tight ends as often as possible.

Maybe it opens up some quick slants to x or bergen, so the o-line doesn't have to keep up protection as well?

I've been wondering recently if not having Grossman at one of the TE spots is leaving us missing the quick safety valve, and that's why it seems like the ball is staying in long enough for the defense to get there?
 
Given the Griz propensity to f*ck things up, both players and coaches, I can't see a Griz win by more than 13 points. And, they will probably have to come from behind to do it. They should win by 40-50 points, but...
The pre-season games have proven my point. All this hocus pocus about Cheney and the Wed Wug is just excuses for poor performance by all.

All I know is that our running game is strong right now and teams are slowly going to start stacking the box putting 7, even 8 guys in the box to stop Gillman and Ostmo. And we will need to pass the ball especially if we get behind late in the game. We can't use that 3 wr set with a TE.
Every game I've watched and I could be wrong but Eli has a huge series and scores on one of his long runs, we take him out and the drive stalls. We either go 3 and out or the drive ends up in a punt. These are the series that we need to get Junior and X in at the same time to make up for the productivity of Eli not being in.
I have nothing against our other receivers. I think White is a good receiver who is reliable and catches the ball, Fontes has been getting better but as of this year Racanelli has been money. Obviously with Junior there is no drop off. But no one on the offense has that big play speed except for X, Junior and Eli.
I just think when Eli isn't in, we need both of them in to make up for Eli being out.

You're right! The pass pro hasn't been that great. And even with the switch at center, idk if youve noticed but our center has a hard time getting consistent good snaps plus he's a left handed snapper so the ball is always low and left. So our QBs are having to bend down low and to the left then come back to the right to make a good throw. Little things like this end up becoming big problems if it's not fixed.

That's the funny thing, when Pease was the OC the first time around, all he did was run 4 wide and 5 wide and his QBs would avg 340 yards/game passing. But of course they didn't have an Gilman. They ran some TE sets with Dallas Neil and he was great but they had 4/5 great receivers just like they do now.
And I'm not saying we should throw the ball all the time. I understand our strength is in the run game, but we need to get that pass game going if we want to be successful late in the season.

Wait, what? What point did it prove and what propensity to fuck things up have they shown?

We have coaches that have made the record better year over year and just got us to the national championship, we went 3-1 in our toughest pre-conference schedule in forever (a decade? more?), and we just beat a ranked and strong Western Carolina team who sports the best QB we will see for the rest of the year. What propensity to fuck things up have they shown? What more do you expect out of them than turning the program around since 2018, and going on this run we have been on now?

That's good thinking out loud. You know more than me about running an offense, man. I just wonder how much Pease actually has control over that part of things, or is Bobby mandating that we go with heavy sets and a lot of 12 personnel.

I agree with you that the boxes are going to be stacked heavier and heavier as Gilman keeps rolling and Ah Yat (or Fife) keeps picking up first downs. I'd love it if we kept working in more quick developing passing concepts vs the slower developing ones we seemed to have going on in the first couple of games, and it seemed to me like we were doing that against WC. I'm really, really hopeful that we can split it down the middle and get Grossman back. He can be both a TE and a receiving threat, and keep our offense fresh even from those two TE sets.

The first quarter of WCU and the entire second half at Grand Forks. How deep a hole can one continually dig for yourself? One of the opposing coaches couldn't figure out how the North Dakota disaster even happened.

Griz were outcoached, offense was a joke, defense pourous. Players try to execute what is called, but therein lies the problem, so I can't fault them.

As for what I'm smoking, it's of my own concoction. Took years to perfect. I might just send you some for Christmas!👍But, better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout...well, you know.
