Eastern Washington Eagles Scouting Report

As always, great insight Brint.

As for EWU...they will be as healthy as they’ve been all year. EB3 was hurt during the JSU game, you could see the effects the next week against Idaho and then he was knocked out for a few series at Sac. He will be back to 100% this week which he really hasn’t been all year.

Easterns three best defensive players haven’t played besides 1-2 games, all 3 should be back this week. Ojoh is arguably the best player in the BSC on D. Losing him at JSU was a big blow. He should be back Saturday.

Eastern still has top 10 talent, but injuries and $hitty play have cost them games they should have won.

Griz look to be a tough team again which is great for the conference. Hope sneeds injury isn’t too bad, would like to see him play this week. Definitely the best game of the year for EWU and us fans...love the rivalry. Best of luck from here on out but Go Eags this week!!

Indeed. Griz still a work in progress. Eagles have earned their success on the field. I think we’ll have a very entertaining matchup Saturday. I’d certainly want our home boys to prevail but ewu is talented and will be a Big challenge.

Eastern seems to always play their best against us. If we falter I think eastern ends up 7-1 in conference.

Yeah, this is what scares me. EWU gets all their good guys back, and now we're playing a sudden top-10 talent team. I don't think we'll get as abused up front as we did at Sac, but trying to contain the EWU offense at full strength is gonna be a tall task.

How does anyone here (EWU fans and Montana fans) know that EWU is getting guys back or who those guys are? I haven't seen anything? This week's two-deep hasn't been announced yet.
And even when it is announced, it will likely say Ojoh is good to go, which the last three have, yet he hasn't seen a snap in those games.

Point being. We're all speculating here.

My bigger picture comment, I'm scared as hell for this game. Montana's strengths (WRs) against our weaknesses (secondary) spells big trouble for us.

Actually looking forward to watching Cam run a game.

Yep. All the naysayers better hope they're wrong about him, because he's QB 1A going into spring ball as a senior next year.

So earlier this year before any games were played I heard a Spokane news sports gal pick EWU over Montana saying "until things change I will always pick EWU over Montana." So now that things are changing I emailed her and asked her about her earlier choice. Surprisingly she agreed with me that Montana was the team to beat. And that she worked in Great Falls for several years and was well aware of all things Griz. LOL

Anyway, fast forward to this week after a loss to Sac St I sent her another email and thought I would share it with you all. She got a kick out of it. It does kind of represent some of the sentiment found here on egriz.

"Well, I guess it is game on again. Montana may be without starting QB Sneed and they are coming off a “we forgot to show up” game against Sac St. They were playing flatter then road kill on a back road in Montana. People on Egriz.com are all but throwing in the towel for the rest of the year. Gloom and doom is filling the air and optimism is out the window like a fast food receipt from a speeding car. Sac St is now the best team in the world, why else would we lose to them? Even Montana St is saying, “we told you so”. Somehow making themselves feel better for losing to the same team badly at home. Of course our general reply is “no, you guys still suck”."

You sent that to her? Or are you just taking claim for something she shared on her social media?

I did send it to her, Brenna Greene, by email. Just joking with her about the EWU game coming up. She asked to tweet it and I said tweet away. I was being sarcastic about some of the things some people were saying on egriz.

Just so you know, I completely understand that 75% of the people who post on egriz have a firm foundation and are level headed about the Griz even after a bad loss. My comments were more pointed to the sky is falling type.

Well, that was a bad loss but I still believe the Griz can bounceback. I would still be confident in a Griz win this week if Sneed wasn't hurt. Now 50 /50 type game. At least it is at home and should be cold and LOUD. I hear it might even snow. I hope so would be better than Rain.

Uh oh. It's going to be #LoudAndCold? Advantage Eags!

Looking forward to enjoying the game from the comfy confines of WaGriz. Great scouting report btw!

If Sneed’s injury is this bad, what are the chances he gets a additional year of eligibility?

It’s gut-check time.

2. Pressure Barriere – EWU has allowed 23 sacks this season, that’s over 3 per game, the Griz cannot let Barriere pick them apart. The stats show that the Griz DL should be able to get to him a bit, and they’d better. If the pass-rush cannot disrupt the EWU passing game it’ll be another long day.

3. Get Knight and company rolling early and often. With Sneed’s status in doubt having a solid ground game will really help this Griz offense to stay balanced, control the game, and grind out EWU. We’ll need our best rushing game of the year, I surmise, from the OL and RBs this week.

hell yeah it is

Hopefully Villanueva is back this game too

if we play even close to last week, we both are in for big trouble in the secondary.
my guess is, we learned from our mistakes in that game and should play a much tighter game.
