My sincere condolences to the man and his family who was apparently shot by an EWU football player. That is bad news.
EDIT: I didn't mean to indicate that an EWU football player also shot someone's family. By all accounts, that didn't happen. Bad phrasing on my part.

Pretty crazy stuff some big sky players get mixed up in. I saw a show a couple of days ago about a guy by the last name of Dorner and had killed several people which led to a manhunt and standoff in some mountains in California. I remember this being covered live on tv and it was a big deal. He played football for SUU (not sure if they were big sky at the time). I wouldnt be surprised if you cant find his name on any of their old rosters or records.

Just checked Tuesday's Spokesman Review. How different the story changes after 24 hrs, and a parking lot video. The story goes Jameison and Bates were confronted by a third person, outside the bar, who produced a hand gun and started firing. The video shows what is supposed to be Jameison and Bates crouching behind a car as another car enters the lot, with it's passenger firing on the two behind the car, who RETURNED FIRE. The dead man was show to be shot by the gunman in the car.
Sounds like self defense, not murder. Stay tuned.

The article even says: "Police do not believe the men shot Villagomez." when talking about Jameison and Bates and then goes on to talk about the video you mentioned which apparently shows the first guy (the one who pulled the gun on Jameison and Bates) is actually the one who shot the bystander. The car that drove by and opened fire on Jameison and Bates ran over the poor guy who got shot too...
So if they got a gun pulled on them first by some guy who was yelling at them (as the article says), ducked behind a car to avoid the gun fire while another car drove by and opened fire on them too prompting them to return fire why do they (as the article states) face "drive by shooting charges"?
Maybe the charges have been changed since the article was written or they are being charged with something since they didn't stick around to talk to the police after the incident or didn't come forward sooner? I don't know... More details will probably come out later I guess.
Hope they catch the guys who initiated the gunfight and shot that poor guy then ran him over.

This wouldn't apply to the football player - unless he was packing - but the other guy jumped is still guilty of a felony if he had his gun in the bar, concealed carry or not.

This whole situation with the shooting is a shotty deal, an EWU player involved in a shooting (to what extent is yet to be known). On top of that, the kid who was shot was an EWU student. Tough week for EAstern with this incident.

"A third suspect has been arrested on investigation of second-degree murder in the shooting that killed an Eastern Washington University student outside The Palomino Club last week.
Spokane police arrested Anthony G. Williams, 22, Tuesday night in connection with the fatal shooting of Eduardo Villagomez, 21, on Jan. 18. Villagomez was a bystander in a gunbattle that broke out in the club’s parking lot around 2 a.m. after a party honoring Martin Luther King Jr.
Two other suspects, LaShawn Jameison, 21, and Kwame Bates, 26, were arrested last week and have been charged with drive-by shooting.
According to court documents, Bates told police he was leaving the club with Jameison and got into a verbal argument with another man who had pushed a woman outside. The man then went to his vehicle and opened the back door. Bates told police he believed the man was getting a gun.
Bates told officers he went back to his car and grabbed his own gun, which he had a concealed weapons permit for, court documents say. He and Jameison saw the man returning with a pistol and hid behind a car in the parking lot as the man began shooting. Bates told officers he returned fire in self-defense and fired six or seven shots.
Surveillance footage from the club shows Villagomez was shot by a bullet fired by the man who started shooting at Bates, court documents say. Villagomez fell to the ground and was run over by a Mustang leaving the scene.
Police spokeswoman Officer Teresa Fuller said she was not sure if Williams is suspected of starting the gun fight."
So, is self defense illegal in Washington state? Illegal to be the target of a drive by shooting? Williams and Bates were armed, taking guns from their cars, or so they say. Jameison was hiding behind a car to avoid getting shot. Facts trickle out, but nowhere is it said Jameison fired a weapon.
Jameison is charged with RCW 9A.36.045 Drive-by Shooting. Herein lies the rub:
(1) A person is guilty of drive-by shooting when he or she recklessly discharges a firearm as defined in RCW 9.41.010 in a manner which creates a substantial risk of death or serious physical injury to another person and the discharge is either from a motor vehicle or from the immediate area of a motor vehicle that was used to transport the shooter or the firearm, or both, to the scene of the discharge.
(2) A person who unlawfully discharges a firearm from a moving motor vehicle may be inferred to have engaged in reckless conduct, unless the discharge is shown by evidence satisfactory to the trier of fact to have been made without such recklessness.
(3) Drive-by shooting is a class B felony.
