"Drake-William Jewell Game Canceled

DES MOINES, Iowa – Drake University football season opener against William Jewell Saturday night at Drake Stadium has been canceled due to severe weather. The game will not be rescheduled and will be recorded as a no contest.

The Bulldogs were leading 7-0 with 7:18 remaining in the first quarter when lightning halted the game. Drake scored on its first possession with a six-yard touchdown run by Braeden Hartwig. Per NCAA rules, the game is recorded as a no contest. The score and statistics from the game will not be counted.

Drake travels to No. 24 Montana on Saturday, Sept. 8. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. CST."

There must have been some nasty weather. I don’t remember games other than the games during the hurricanes getting cancelled. There were a lot.

Yep, there sure were. The Weather Channel had some spectacular (and scary) shots of lighting strikes.
