I'm not slamming Tru, or trying to ruin this thread. But I want make the point that it is sad indeed that the South Stockton kids only seem to look at athletics as a "way out". Their heroes are the kids whose athletic ability allows them to make instant millions, and become a celebrity to the community.

You will never read about a kid from South Stockton who becomes a doctor, or business leader. This is a major problem in the ghetto. These individuals look for the quick buck as a way out, instead of looking up to those who educate themselves, and work hard to make something of themselves in life. Thus, their heroes are rappers, athletes, and celebrities. Just sayin'.

I am a Montanan. I graduated from UM and then went to Grad School At UOP in Stockton,California. The housing economy in Stockton took one the hardest hits in the entire nation. It's also the second most likely place in the US to have your car stolen. The streets there can be rough, and there isn't a single city in Montana that compares to Stockton!
On multiple occasions, I was stopped wearing my Griz gear, to have somebody tell me that their cousin, brother, son, or friend, Tru Johnson was playing at Montana and they were proud of what he was doing there. I think both Tru's family in Stockton and his extended Griz family should be proud of his efforts. The fact that he wants to inspire other kids from the streets of Stockton (or anywhere for that matter) to go to college.... It really makes this Griz fan proud!

I have founded 2 medical device companies, directed their growth into significant players within their respective niches, and sold both to large conglomerates for millions of dollars. My third venture, founded out of retirement boredom at age 58, is now #2 and growing in its market. I recently turned down an offer to sell it for 1.4 million dollars, after investing $70,000 into starting it 4 years ago. Not bragging, just demonstrating how this dumbass was able to eke out a living being such an idiot. But, I'm a no-nothing mental case. If you are conflicted, do the opposite of what I say, and continue being the losers that you both are. I know nothing about life. If either of your mental midgets had half of my smarts or know-how, your IQ would elevate double.
