"A State Department ruling announced Saturday could affect star Duke basketball player Khaman Maluach, the Blue Devils' starting center.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a statement on social media he is "taking actions to revoke all visas held by South Sudanese passport holders." Maluach was born in South Sudan and committed to Duke in March of last year. Saturday’s loss to Houston concluded his freshman season.

Rubio attributed the decision to “the failure of South Sudan’s transitional government to accept the return of its repatriated citizens in a timely manner.”

Duke probably has its legal dept. and influential alums working an exemption for this 7'2" soon to be target in the bush.
As far as I know, he isn't a threat to ANYONE, except opposing basketball players. Tossing him out is like throwing the baby out with the bath water.
This guys NIL probably makes him a millionaire, so he can afford his own legal team. His freshman teammate, Flagg, makes $4.2 million/yr. from his NIL.

At least in past years, visa status limited what foreign college athletes could make. Don't know now. Don't know what kind of visa he has.

How do you know that he, or anyone, is innocent? In this day and age with illegal aliens are 'undocumented persons', men or women that think they are something else are trans(not f***ed up), etc. Instead of innocent how about 'haven't been caught yet.'

That isn’t how the legal system or basic logic works bud.

Why would you just assume that an African college basketball player is guilty of something simply because he’s an immigrant?

What I can assume with near certainty is that you are an out of touch, ignorant, & racist fool.

JFC! Learn to read. I didn't say shit about his race or immigration status. It applies to ANYONE! That includes YOU and ME. How do I know YOU or anyone is innocent(of anything). How do you know I am innocent. How do you know ANYONE is 'innocent'? Legally, we(all of us)are presumed innocent until proven guilty. You inferred something that was not there. The article clearly states trump is revoking the Visas held by all South Sudanese passport holders. That certainly sounds as though there was no consideration of whether someone is guilty of anything beyond breathing American air.

My guess is this provisional government wasn't allowing their illegal South Sudanese caught in the U.S. to be shipped back. I was right, there is an AP article today stating w just that. Trump got their attention, now they see the light. Another flea jumping off our dog. Trump is playing hardball with the world, which is now waking up. They don't like it, but recognize there is a new Sheriff in town. Too bad there are all those "geniuses" on this site who won't admit they are wrong about Trump. They are willfully blind.🫣
FYI South Sudan has been in a civil war for at least 46 years, beginning in 1955, plus whatever they are calling what is currently going on. It's a shithole. We don't need their garbage in this country. And, NO, the basketball players are not garbage. They played by the rules.

South Sudan became an idependent nation in 2011. But their people have suffered for decades. Read up sometime on the Mujandeen. It was without a doubt genocide. Brutal horrible stuff. The people seeking refugee status in the U.S. are NOT garbage. They are victims of genocide..no different than those that fled the Holocaust.
 
They need to stay in their own country and FIGHT for their lives, not live off this, or any country, like a leech. Why don't YOU open up your home and finances to these 'refugees?'
