I wonder who the donor was that spoke with Haslam and strongly encouraged him not to renew but base decision off of the Brawl?

PlayerRep said:My guess is that it was more than one. Haslam already knew that multiple big supporters and lots of former players weren't high on Stitt (or worse) and liked Hauck. What Haslam may not have realized is how hard many of them would come at him after the Cat loss--especially after they noticed him standing in the tunnel before the game with a 3-year contract. Like I posted several times long ago, if things didn't go well or well enough under Stitt, the next decisions were not going to be those of Haslam alone. Big supporters would step in and express their views. Several of the largest UM supporters were never Stitt fans, and were always Hauck fans. Haslam may have realized that his best bet was hiring Hauck now, because he was supported by multiple big supporters and none of them could complain if it didn't work out in 3 years. But, by extending Stitt, against the will of many supporters, and if it didn't work out with Stitt, then Haslam would also get pushed out. I don't want to be overly cynical, but I've alluded to this previously and a UM supporter mentioned this scenario to me today.
Tip-toeing on the edge here as far as talking to Hauck "officially." ... but schedules make it necessary. San Diego State is almost certainly going to end up at 10-2 (New Mexico, 3-8, at home next). They will then be able to pick and choose from one of several big-money bowl (not biggest, but pretty good). But if Hauck really wants the job, Rocky Long and SDSU will surely give permission for official talks and not hold him back. But the situation is not cut-and-dried.PlayerRep said:My guess is that it was more than one. Then post it here. Would love to see the thread. Most of this didn't "come down" last week, if my understanding, so will be interesting to see what was said on MB. Also, I have been talking to several MB readers about UM, Stitt, Cat game and Hauck for several days, and they didn't mention anything they saw on MB. And, one of the major conversations with Hauck didn't occur until last night, so it would be surprising that MB knew all about it last week.
