Doesn't look like SHS expected to be in playoffs

Check out the early part of the article from gobearcat.com. This is pretty funny.

"Central Arkansas ended Sam Houston’s hopes for a third consecutive FCS playoff berth with a 49-31 defeat at Estes Stadium in Conway.

With the result, last year’s Southland co-champions end this season tied for third in the league race with identical 4-3 conference records. Sam Houston finishes 8-4 for the season while UCA upped its overall record to 7-5.

The contest marked the final appearance in a Bearkat uniform for nine seniors who have been part of the most successful four years in Sam Houston’s 97 years of football.

For only the second time in the last 51 Bearkat football games, Brian Bell did not start at quarterback. Bell suffered a shoulder sprain in the fourth quarter of the Southeastern Louisiana game a week ago but came off the bench late in the first quarter to take over the offense from redshirt freshman Jared Johnson.

Bell passed for 327 yards and four touchdowns. He ends his career as Sam Houston’s winningest quarterback (38-10 as a starter) and the program’s all-time leader in passing and total offense."

The 2 most shocking things to me and MANY other FCS fans were the Griz getting an 8 seed ahead of NAU and then SHSU making the playoffs and then actually hosting a 1st round game, both were a JOKE!!!!!!! Maybe NAU should have played a DIII team for there 10th win like the Griz did, LOL.. OOPs, its was D-2 Pan Handle State, much tougher.

UM's selection as a seed is supported by virtually all criteria, other than the loss to NAU early in the season.

What is shocking and a joke, is that you apparently don't know that first round hosting is based on the school's bid amount.

Struggling to sleep at night over this? :coffee:

Talon, the Griz took care of business down the stretch, but the biggest difference IMO between the Griz getting the seed and NAU getting the seed was NAU's blowout loss to MSU and not having to play EWU. Case closed. :thumb:

I agree that Sam Houston getting in was a surprise and a home game is probably based on regionalism (which is clearly a factor). There is clearly an argument against some of the other at large contenders, YSU lost it's last three I think, Tenn-Chattanooga was up and down, etc. As for getting the seed over NAU, I think the NCAA looked at three things. Washington-Griz is a money maker and money talks, NAU's win over us was maybe viewed as an anomaly, and our other loss was a close loss to a strong program with a migraine inducing, gimmick turf.

Sam Houston InstituiteTechnology...............BIG SKY KILLER!

Hey, the Griz got the #8 seed and it is was it is. Apparently the respect factor as most are saying. But here's the opinion from a dozen different forums I've visited. NAU was 7-1 in BSC, Griz were 6-2 AND LOST to NAU. It's very simple math, NAU is ahead of the Griz. IF they were both 7-1 then I could see the rational. So just turn the table a bit. Lets say it were NAU at #3 in the BSC and had lost to the Griz and gotten the #8 seed, would you still be saying NAU deserved it??????????? I doubt ANY Griz fan would agree. Enjoy your gift and then your cupcake 2nd round match-up. Then go beat the shit out of NDSU!!!!!!!!!!!!! See ya in Frisco.

Good point. But, it doesn't matter. EWU or NDSU. No matter what side the Griz get, it's over. Hell of a season. 11-3 is a record you can hang your hat on. Way better then what the Cats did this year.

No matter who the Griz play...the Griz will show up. The playoffs will be a battle and I am pretty sure there are no cupcakes left. Whether our season ends in week 2 or beyond, the one thing the Griz have shown week after week is that they will fight to the final bell. The pride and tradition of the Montana Grizzlies is strong!

Yeah, well, unlike the scats, we aren't satisfied with rolling through the regular season and then bending over for tougher competition in the playoffs.
