Funny that people say he has to get his guys in his system, when the most success his system had was with Gustafson, Nguyen, Jones, and Henderson.

We will see what it looks like with the 3qbs he recruited. Spring ended with more questions than answers.

I will give you Jones and Henderson.

Get back to me when a qb runs this offense better than Gustafson.

Gus was just as instrumental in its struggles as anyone. And to be honest, how other QB's play in this offense will say more about Stitt's system than Gus. The success Gus had in year one had more to do with Jones, Henderson and Roberts than him. The drop in WR play magnified Gus's shortcomings.

Exactly. We'll see how Stitt's qbs do throwing to his receivers.

I think this year will be a better indicator whether the Stitt offense can work at this level or not. Without getting into the Gustafson debate for the 8000th time, having a QB with some mobility who doesn't panic and check out of 30% of the plays called might actually create the time and space to make his offense click. On the other hand, none of the QB's are proven and the O-line looks scary, so it could get even worse before it gets better.

I don't really buy the "offense is too complicated" theory, they only ran about 5 f***[*] plays over and over the whole year.

A bigger question I have is how you get beat by a bad team that comes in and says "Hey, we can't pass the ball at all, so we're going to run it every time, just so you know" and you can't stop them anyway? I've thought about that for 7 months and still have no answer.

I'm not convinced the running game scheme is viable, and by that I mean the the o-line might not be capable of making it work & that when what's important is if the back can block, then run he ball - there isn't a focus on getting it to be viable.

I also think Semore is on the hot seat for just the reason you noted. Seems like he can't read the tea leaves right up to the point where they're about to yell from the opposite sideline what the next play is going to be. They bulked up a bit in the off-season & he needs more than one kid to step up & be a leader. Come to think of it, that needs to happen in the offensive side as well.

OK now. I know you saw the spring game, didn't Hill or Phillips look better than Gus and we won't even start on the running ability.

So, the Griz didn't suffer any injuries last season? Or the season before when they played 4 QBs?

Yes, Pflu went to the semis his second season. But he had considerably more talent than Stitt. I just have a difficult time understanding the praise for one, and the condemnation of the other. But then I'm just a reasonable, objective poster from Seattle, so....
Is Coach Stitt now blaming "injuries?"

That's a new one to me. You should write his press releases.

What's the sudden fixation with Robin Pflugrad?

That was your buddy PR's excuse, not Stitt's. You might want to address your question to him.

Re Pflu, simply pointing out the obvious hypocrisy of a few on this board. I thought I clearly made that point. Perhaps I should have done so using in excess of 75,000 words.

I don't know why you and UMGriz75 are still talking then

75 knows a lot about football and sport. And both of us know a lot more about football than you do.

Perhaps, as usual, you should have just made something up, and then blamed someone else for saying it.

Everyone knows you are an inveterate Engstrom fan, and bitter at the outcome of his choices.

But, that's your problem. Just grow up and get over it.

I will never understand why the same posters on this board who rip on Stitt for a poor season also trumpet Pflugrad as the greatest coach since Vince Lombardi, giving him a full pass on a completely shitty season with far, far better inherited talent.

Pflu's first season is completely explainable by losing JJ at the start of pre-season practice, and not having a single qb on the roster who had completed a pass in college. Had JJ been the qb, UM would have had 5 more wins. Had it been known earlier that JJ would not be available for the season, Montana would not have transferred.

With JJ back, UM went to the semis the next year, and almost rallied to comeback in the semifinal game.

There is no excuse for the collapse at the end of the 2016 season. And, it was Sttt's second season, not his first, at UM.

People from Seattle who don't have a clue about football should think twice before saying stupid things about football.

JJ wasn't injured. He was off the team. No ability to lead or play. The same qb started all but 2 games last year, I believe. Are you saying that UM had no injuries in Pflu's second year?

By season 2, a good should have filled most holes and have good talent in place. UM's talent was fine or better last season.

Okay, did Stitt have a better season last fall than Pflu would have had. The answers are no, yes, don't know. Take your pick.

Just curious, does 75 have any thing he personally wants to share or post or add, for example his predictions or something football related, or does he just want to continue quoting others to contradict posters that actually are trying to share and talk football?
See that thread topic title? If you don't like it, then butt out.

Ironic

You've got "irony" and "consistency" confused.

You make it sound like the sky is falling and the Griz finished dead last with an 0-11 record.
I don't "make it sound" like anything. Those are newspaper quotes.

The fact is, we had a 3-5 conference record this most recent year; arguably the worst year since Larry Donovan, and one of those losses was to a team that only won two games all season, and they won at Missoula. How does that "sound" to you?

Sounds good to me...it was LAST year. New year....lets enjoy it.

i would have to say that that there is more to it than this......

Yes I did. No they didn't.

So you are saying that BG is better than those two?
What color is the sun in your world ?
Either one of those QB's will 15 yards downfield before the synapses hit GB's feet to move.

You sound like Jane Curtain on SNL's Weekend Update, so with that in mind----

PlayerRep, you ignorant slut, Alzheimer's has obviously set in! Pflu's first season was 2010. Selle was the starting QB, but he was injured and Justin Roper took over (JJ played vs EW and maybe a couple other games). As has always been the case you don't really know much about Jordan Johnson.

Except it wasn't pflu's first season where he lost JJ. His first season he burned JJ's redshirt by having him play about 25 plays, pissing off a bunch of Griz fans in the process. 2011 he had JJ and went to the semis. 2012 spring was when he lost JJ during spring practice and lost his job shortly thereafter.

I am saying that Jones, Henderson and Roberts are all much better than the receivers that were on the field last year and made a ton of plays. The receivers last year did not make many plays at all. I am not saying this was the only thing, but it was a big factor in the performance of the offense and BG. Without those 3 receivers, year 1 would have been similar to year 2.

Yup, it was Delaney's first season. Pflu's first season also had qb issues, as Selle went down on 9/28 against SS. Pflu's team was still 7-4, with only 3 conference losses, tying for 3d in conference. 3d best record in the conference. Ended up ranked 20th in the country. I still think the Griz should have been selected for the playoffs, just like UM would have been selected last year had they beaten the Cats and went 7-4.

Is Everett trying to say being ranked 20th in the nation and just missing the playoffs is comparable to the 2016 season, losing 4 of the last 5 games?

Actually, I had figured out my mistake fairly quickly, but decided to let it go for awhile to see how many other posters, including Everett, were just as dumb as I was. In any event, major qb's problems for both Pflu and Delaney, and Pflu's first season was much better than last years (and the Griz were ranked 20th at the end of the season).

Agree....a few key catches of balls right in their hands and a whole different game. Drops really hurt and if drives stayed alive "perhaps" a win or two more. BG was good enough to get team into playoffs, but I never saw enough consistency on his part to go very deep. I don't think any other option at that time would have either. Let's hope this year things turn around with WR play and QB can make an occasional first down with legs when plays break down AND make the read option QB run a true threat to make linebackers play honest
