I have not seen the Ladies play this season, so I can not make a call on whether to keep the coach. But I do think that giving any coach a one-year contract is the wrong move. First, it places that coach in a win-now-or-be-gone position. That causes the coach to think only short-term, and not to build a team over a period of 2-3 seasons. Poor teams can not be fixed in a single season. Secondly, high school athletes today are very aware of fitting-in with the culture of the coach who is recruiting them. Opposing coaches will use this uncertainty of whether the UM head coach will be there following one season in their recruiting pitch to prospects, and it will adversely effect the recruiting process. Our AD needs to commit to either conducting a national search and hiring the best candidate to a 3-year contract, or give our interim coach a 3-year contract which allows him to build his team without the pressure of a one-year deal. Just my opinion.
