Does Ferris play dirty?

The two ejections for leading with the helmet speaks for themselves. Beyond that the number of penalties Ferris had over their first three games is just under 20 in each game. The crowd is certainly a credit for a few of untimely penalties, as always in Wa-Griz. Are the other penalties purely undisciplined play or is it indicative of how they choose to play the game?

I think that Ferris pushes the edge of what is allowed within the rules, figuring that half of the time they won't get called and try to play it so the other team gets called for penalties too. On the PI play that the Griz got called on in the end zone you can see the WR pull himself back towards the CB to make it look like the Griz player pulled him back....worked. There was a lineman who was trying to get the thespian award by faking the effects of a late push (that didn't get called)

The Griz had more penalties than is typical for the Griz.

There’s always teams that think Montana plays dirty because of the edge we play with or at least have in the past. This team was like looking in the mirror. Gritty, and plays hard to the whistle with a chip on their shoulder. I’m glad we faced a team like this before the likes of Idaho, Sac, or the Cats this year.

Seems like they played aggressively, but stupid. Both of those plays were pretty much over. I can't see their coach happy with those targeting calls.

I would use “undisciplined”. Not necessarily dirty.

But I also thought our DL and LB’s spent an inordinate amount of time on the ground when rushing the passer…seemed weird that they always seemed to go to the ground…

Seemed like they were good utilizing their hands and feet pass blocking. Saw a few nice trips that slowed down our blitz on a couple of plays.

Undisciplined is probably the right phrase. We didn’t look very disciplined early on. Especially that first series. Ugly!

the lineman hit while the runner was still up and moving. his was a dumb lineman downfield making a tackle who probably doesn't get to make many a year so year, stupid head down hit. The other was definitely late and targeting.

It's called being owned by an offensive line 50 lbs. bigger than you are

Sure thing. If by "owned" you mean tripped, then yes I agree. Yet somehow we managed 4 sacks and 9 TFL's. And held them scoreless in the 2nd half.

No one should have expected that they would have come in minus a chip on their shoulder, with a healthy respect for Montana's program. Their coach made this clear in the presser, when he touted his team as a bunch of 'dogs" and "badasses." Which to me is code for thuggery that comes off as undisciplined play. In his mind, this explains away forty-five penalities in three games including the fifteen this past Saturday that cost them a win.

Walking in stadium as Ferris left pregame warm-ups on west side entrance. #72 yelled something about "humpin' the bear". Fans yelled back "you'll have 9 false starts".

The fans' prediction was closer.....#72 was called for a couple including one that moved ball from the 2 to the 7 and I think ended in the doink DG attempt.

Not dirty and kind of appreciated the trash talk......but a good laugh.

Honest question: on the multiple false starts inside the 1 yard line, how do they measure the “penalty” yardage? Do they count it as 1/3 of a yard, 1/2 of a yard, 1/6 of a yard? Officially, I mean…

Good questions are important questions. This is not.

No, I agree with aggressive, but stupid. Probably had a case for a third total targeting on that same play but it wasn’t as egregious. That being said, they play like a D1 school.
