Do we need an offensive Coordinator

garizzalies said:
I’m not sold on this offense yet. It’s all or nothing; hot and cold. Too inconsistent, particularly against decent Ds. There’s no one thing it does great, like a bread-n-butter play. And that running game. On paper it seems brilliant; but in reality it requires near perfect execution. No room for error. Great example: on probably our best drive in the 1st vs Dweeb (prior to the pick), we had to convert like 5 of 5 third downs. That will eventually catch up to you. Just not sustainable. And don’t get me started on the pressure on the qb

Great point about seeming to always be looking at a third-down conversation. The great offenses face fewer of those situations than we seem to. I have had these thoughts during games this year. When a first-down running play doesn't gain at least 4 yards, it sets-up a scenario which often puts us in a 3rd down situation.

I think we should let a collective Egriz be the d coordinator....

Every poster gets one play a game to call what the team does on defense...

I get play number 1....ALL OUT BLITZ BITCHES.....your welcome Egriz 2nd and 20 to start the game....

Dont mess up the good start I gave us..........its now in your hands.

Like BW said, we just put up over 500 yards on the #1 defense in the big sky. Offense is OK. Flat at times, head scratcher at times, but OK.
Head coach, D coach and ST coaching, are all lacking. IMO.

I didn't watch the game but thought I heard we fumbled in both red zones. One led to no points for Griz and another led to 7 points for Weber. Also a pick 6. Seems like a possible 21 point turnaround. Offense wasn't OK on those 3 plays.
The offense was not OK. It piled up its yardage after spotting Weber a 4 TD lead. The yardage was irrelevant. Started the game with 3 of the first 4 possessions resulting in 3-and-outs and the other an interception. Way to set the tone. Down 4 scores to a good team - game over. The offense was very sloppy; 3 ints, bad RZ fumble; almost as bad as STs. Can't return a KO; 31.5 ave on punts, missed PAT. The defense was put into impossible situations and was not the problem; is showing improvement. Weber had 298 yards.

The Weber game was a perfect example of why measuring success by the gaining of, or lack of offensive yardage, means little to the outcome of the game. Montana significantly out-gained Weber and lost. Weber gained only 298 yards, but still scored 40+ points. This scenario seems to be a recurring one with a Stitt team.

OK. We're talking about an offensive coordinator. In your mind, do fumbles, interceptions, turnovers, penalties, etc. from the offense fall onto the coach? Or, does it fall onto player execution, focus, etc.
Just curious.

There are decent arguments both for and against the B.S. offense. I'm not completely sold on the offense but at times I do see glimmers of hope that it can consistency put points on the board. I think we are more in need of a head coach, D coach and ST coach than we are in need of a new O coordinator. Just my opinion.

Go Griz!

This thread proves how little people actually know about what’s going on. You didn’t know that Selle had taken over the play calling?

You didn’t know they put up the most passing yards, most total yards, (500+), most TDS, and the longest TD of the season against the top defense in the league? And every TD was scored by a freshman or sophomore? That they’re now top 5 passing offense in the FCS?

Yes. Our offense with a freshman QB struggled with turnovers against the best defense he’s ever faced. If you think that means we should pull the plug on the rebuilding process, then shut the hell up because you’re too ignorant of the facts and are quite literally wasting all of our time.

Oh and the defense pitched a shutout in the second half after being repeatedly put in a tough spot because of turnovers and short fields in the first half. The fact that a comeback was even a possibility in the 2nd half was because of them making adjustments and not rolling over.

They also shutdown a legitimate NFL tight end after the 1st quarter. And they did it all with out Strong and then having not one but two players ejected.

They could have easily found a reason to rollover but they didn’t. They fought to the end. It’s called heart. They have it. If you’re too stupid to recognize that and show them respect, then stay the hell away from your keyboards.

It’s time to get behind this team - players and coaches. Not act like spoiled brat every time a game doesn’t turn out like you want.

It's time for you to quit calling posters stupid or brats because they see things differently than you, who has no more or no less credential than anyone else.

Does player execution, focus, etc. fall outside the responsibility of coaches? Just curious.

Sometimes, but the coach has the responsibility to make sure the team is in a position to execute. Too often Our players are put into a situation because of play calling that execution requires near perfection in a near impossible situation. WAY to many 3 rd and longs trying to establish a running game.

Ultimately, it's on the player to execute. Not to fumble, Not to get penalized. Not to throw interceptions. Of course mistakes will be made as no one is perfect but it's still up oi the player to get it done. A coach cannot go onto the field and do that for them. However, coaches do have some responsibility to get players focused and prepared to execute properly, not all of the responsibility, but some, yes.

Let's hope the coaches have them prepared for NAU and the players execute properly with minimal mistakes this weekend. I think if they do, we win and roll through the last two games!

Go Griz!

No. No it’s not. EGriz has devolved into an echo chamber for people who call themselves fans, but really only care about themselves. And they don’t even bother to read the information that’s out there — like Selle being the primary play caller this season. Instead they post stupid polls five seconds after a tough loss. They never get in here and acknowledge anything positive. It’s negativity followed by more negativity. Their insight is — “The defense gave up more points than the offense scored. I hate this coach.” But with more spelling errors and bad grammar. I’m sick of it. I stayed away from this site for a long time. I started to come back when I started traveling for work again, but sadly it’s worse than it was before. It’s dominated fair weather fans. So I’ll stop calling out the ignorant fans on this board when you guys start saying such stupid things.

We still need a Lex Hlliard type running back and HC or OC Stitt not doing a good job of both!!! :( :(

Yeah, 'cause those kind of backs are just sitting at home waiting for an FCS coach to call. :?

JFC, you're an idiot.

And anyone who would complain about having a combination like Calhoun and Lee is, well, an idiot.

8-) No We Need consistency from game to game. Corners need to be focused play by play and any OC cannot change any team if execution is not achieved. Go Griz. :thumb:

I don’t see the offense being an item of concern here. Additionally it seems they’re grooming Selle for the job.

Saw a lot of similarities between Kelly and Stitt in this article. Kelly was able to make the changes, can Stitt?

I agree. Referenced that a few days ago after I had read it. Let's hope changes that need to happen do, whatever they feel are the issues.

I lay the Weebs loss at the feet of one Mr. Strong. His selfish act laid a whole lot of distraction on a team right when they needed it least. The combination of an idle week followed by a week of turmoil lead to a really bad start. It took 1/2 of the game for the players to get back on task. Should coaches have been able to get the team going sooner? Maybe -- but they shouldn't have even had to. Everyone needs to do their job in the best interest of the team, including the players.
