Also, was Henkel playing with the Carroll guys in Butte? I heard he was going to and wondered how that went.
Henkel played over at the tourney with a team of Carrol guys. He sat back and didn't shoot very much in his first two games, which they won. In the first game, however, he picked apart the defense with very precise passing and had 10 assists at halftime. I believe he ended up with at least 15 assists.
Carrol's only loss of the tourney was against a couple of Tech players, Kenny Herbst and Davin Blixt. These two had a bunch of buddies from Miles City Community College come over to help round out the team as well as Chris Mosbacher. Henkel had about 17 points in this game scoring most of points at the basket. Gular had 20 in the first half but only 1 in the second. Mosbacher scored the most for the other team with 20 in a great athletic battle with Gular.
In Carrol's last game, Henkel went off with 5 or 6 threes. He ended up with about 27 points and finally looked like the determined scorer that he used to be in high school. This outburst was against a very talented team of players that I believe came out of Great Falls (someone said that they were all on the Argo team but couldn't play due to poor grades).
In all, I believe it was a very successful weekend for Henkel as he got acquainted with his new teammates and impressed them and Coach Turcott with what the coach said was, "very unselfish and heady play."
