Different Directions: WSU & EWU

Barring an almost miracle comeback, Weber is about to lose at Eastern Washington. Funny how these two have gone in different direction compared to pre-season expectations.

Hey, weber down to the Ewho 30, 28 sec left... it ain't over yet...but I DID pick EWHO to win...so... Go bloody Eaglets!

I wonder where that Weber fan went that was arguing with me all offseason about how losing Jay Hill didn't mean anything, and he wasn't actually that important. :coffee:

You were absolutely right. A multitude of things went way different than I thought they would, key player loses on D to the portal(f#[% BYU), too many injuries in the summer along our D line, And a head coach trying to be the OC at the same time, all came together to make this season what it is. When our #1 QB hit the portal, I thought #2 would be okay. He wasn't and now we are starting a true freshman, a freshman RB, and a couple of freshmen WRs. Some of the young guys are starting to show some promise, but we are in a rebuilding mode right now.

I still have some hope for next year, but we have a long way to go.

Good luck to the Griz the rest of the way. :thumb:

Just having fun. I'm a little shocked Weber has been this bad, but the way you lay it out, it all makes sense.

I can't be too high and mighty here, you were the only person to correctly pick that we'd lose to NAU a couple weeks ago, so we'll call it even. :thumb:

So, what has been the difference between the Weber team who handled Norther Iowa (who smoked UND, who smoked UNDSU) and the Weber team we have seen since? Just injuries? What other factors???

Injuries mostly, but I do think that our new coach bit off more than he could chew by trying to be the OC and HC at the same time. I think it is easier to be the DC and HC at the same time. However, our previous coach found that to be too much to handle well. Prespective as a HC changes, and it should. Right now we have co-defensive coordinators. That worked well under Hill because he was the ultimate say in all things D. I'm not blaming that on our current woes on D, but think it might work better with just one of them being the final say. We lost our top 4 DEs to injury and family issues and 2 of our top 4 DTs to injury. We have also lost a starting LB and two starting CBs to injury. We lost an all American CB and a starting DE to BYU, via the portal. Our QB situation has been a big problen on O and our starting RB is out for the season. Honestly, I think it has been a rude awakening for coach Mental. He has a lot of work to do to get us competitive for next year. Some of the young guys are starting to step up and that gives me a little hope. I don't want to slip back into sucking every year.

OK, makes sense. The cliff they fell off just seemed to come from nowhere considering they really played well vs UNI. Hope your dudes get on the mend soon. Injuries are a b1tch.
