Differences in lineups if there wasn't a coaching change

I'm seriously just trying to keep myself distracted until kickoff. Got to thinking, what would the differences look like if there wasn't a coaching change and how would this Griz team look heading into the game tomorrow.

I'll list is as follows:

Current Lineup in bold / Best guess of what would have been in italics

QB: Sneed / Jensen
RB: Eastwood / Lee
TE: Bingham / Bingham (H)
WR: Curran / Curran
WR: Toure / Toure or Calhoun
WR: JLM / JLM
T: Beaver / Beaver
T: Keintz / Jackson
G: Villanueva / Villanueva
G: Eckmeyer / Eckmeyer
C: Meyer / Meyer

*Jeremy Calhoun would probably be starting over Lee assuming no suspension

DE: Nelson / Favoroso
DE: Tilleman / Tilleman
DT: Sims / Sims
DT: Shaw / Shaw
LB: Lewis / Lewis
LB: Olson / Olson
LB / S: Robertson / Cochran
CB: Calhoun / Cowans
CB: Nash / Nash
S: Hauck / Epperly
S: Sandry / Sandry

*Josh Buss would be starting over Jace Lewis assuming a clean bill of health

Kind of interesting to see some of the changes that have come about. Some differences in positions and some players that will be backing up to open the game that would be starting (presumably) if there wasn't a coaching change.

I feel that overall by position:

- QB is a wash based on the system
- RB tough to read based on presumed changes, I'd lean to improved as-is
- WRs the same but again would have bigger #'s in prior system
- TE will be more of a factor this year
- OL, about the same?
- D-line loss of the stat leader but I'm not convinced the current is "worse" than what it could have been
- LBs a bit of a change but same use of guys
- CBs/DBs a good improvement and far better depth this year as experienced guys can rotate in and help on ST

Are you saying that Favoroso left the program because he didn't like Hauck?

Hauck continues to say that the new coaches have gotten terrific buy-in from the team, almost a surprising amount in the first year of a coaching change. Yes, some players with talent have departed, but not that many.

People on or close to the team that I know, have said that if the players who departed because they didn't like the new coaches, they weren't really Griz anyway and it's fine that they are gone. Perhaps it is lucky that the senior class is so small, as there weren't enough to grumble and lead the team in another direction. My theory is that the team and upperclassmen are tired of not making the playoffs and not beating the Cats, so they were willing to buy into what the new coaches were saying and asking, in order to have a better chance of being on a stronger team in their last year or two as a Griz.

I don’t know anybody on the team (live too far away and thus too far removed), but I can see how that last statement would be correct.

Jackson retired due to concussions and the prior continuing impact on him. He's a bouncer at the Iron Horse. Ask him.

That’s what I thought I’d heard.

Favoroso didn’t leave because he hated the coaches. He left because they hated him for whatever reason.

Pretty ironic that the hype/highlight video that MONTANA produced and just put out has plays made by Favoroso in most of it.

I should probably update the list. I’ll call myself out on the poor assumption that Jackson would be on the team still.

Favoroso did leave bc he didn’t fit with the staff.

This is a steaming pile of shit. Not sure what world you are living in but it isn't the real one.

Record with/without.
7-4 with Hauck

That had better not happen. I certainly hope the AD made it very clear that 7-4 is unacceptable.

:thumb:

I think it was more that the big boosters made it clear to the AD that it was time to replace Stitt with Hauck, and that the AD should provide support to Hauck and let him do his thing, until the boosters decided otherwise. No directives like 7-4 is the minimum; more like don't make a move without consulting us and getting our approval. Ha.

I think that's BS, but thats just me. Kent knew that the future of his employment with the University of Montana was going to be tied to the success of the football coach.

stitthead was in over his head, Haslam put himself between a rock and a hard place. Should have hired Hauck back before Mick-but better late than never
