Did Mick have an epiphany?

I stand by Ty Gregorak as a potential head coach. He might be a tad bit green right now but the guy is all coach and very much a stand up guy. I have known him since he arrived to coach. Also he and his wife have visited with me at my cabin and I like them both as people and coaches. He may not be the person to take over right now but I would keep him in any event.
He has to coach exactly like Mick Delaney wants him to. In my opinion give him the reins and he produces a much better defense. Yes I am guessing at the last part, but I have watched him on and off the field and he is the kind of guy you want sticking around!

One other thing, we do have some other good assistant coaches and I sure as hell would try to keep some of them when Delaney leaves.

Speaking of new head coaches I would love to get one that has West Coast connections as a ton of good recruits live in that area.

The play call on the two point was a good one. JJ made a poor read. The d end bit and the linebacker was inside. He should have kept it. Good call...which was not even micks play call btw....poor execution

Yeah right, great play call with a minute left in the third quarter and the Griz down by 10. He is the only coach in America who would have gone for two....

Why was it stupid, you get the 2..youre down one possession...you kick a field goal and youre down 9 and still two possessions...if you don't understand that I would question you ever watching a football game before....being down 9 does nothing for you....now I WOULD DEFINATLY question the play call trying to run the ball in....

Hey, Teach, why don't you go through this one also?

Never I mean never huddle up if you know you are going for two. Always sneak as best you can the play you have intended to use so the other team will need to call a time out or better yet you catch them by surprise. Don Read used that most of the time. Smart coaches always know when and why they will attempt a two point conversion and it is always ahead of the just made TD. Pure and simple.

Same with field goal kicking! Same with keeping Time Outs in the sack until you need them!

Alpha is still in a jail south of Arizona. So Big G is not Alpha.

Big G will turn himself in during spring break and convert his handle to a name like Small m.

HOW CAN YOU NOT WRITE "SMALL D?!"

OK, I stand corrected: Big G will become "Small d"

"tiney d" came in second in the latest E-Griz poll

Math has replaced that years ago....same with when to go for it on fourth down. Coaches will never follow the math because every time they do and fail...they are ridiculed.

 I agree. Alpha was pretty "quick with the whip". He'd piss me off sometimes. I'm kinda glad he's gone tho. I don't like bandwagon fans. Especially Bison bandwagon fans. Those are the worst. Speaking of that... He bragged up Carson Wentz like he was the 2nd coming. That guy sucks. Brock Jenson never let the offense off the field with only 3 points on the board and only averaging 31 points a game. Granted, 31 ppg isn't bad but this kid is No Brock Jensen. Anyways, Brock Jensen got cut by Seth Laboto in Miami this summer lol

It was the THIRD QUARTER! I guess you would also go for two in the first quarter, huh? There was a whole quarter of football to be played. You don't panic in the third quarter. You obviously never coached football.

To be specific, :49 seconds left in the 3rd QTR. You have to assume you probably only get the ball a couple more times...so would you rather be down 8 or 9 or 10.

If you watch enough (or too much) football, as I do, you'll hear "never go for 2 until you have to". I have heard it enough that I guess it qualifies as conventional wisdom. Of course you could be unconventional and go for 2 "whenever" like Oregon often does. I believe that the Griz should have taken the point, be down by 9 and give themselves the chance to win it with a TD + field goal. As it turned out it is a moot point (pun intended) anyway.

I usually agree with most things you say on here but on this one I will have to say that you are wrong IMO. There was no reason we had to go for two points at that point in the game when we had momentum going into the fourth quarter. Not getting anything on that play kind of killed the momentum we did have going.

All too often, conventional wisdom is more habit than reality. How about the coach who never punts and tries on-side kicks frequently? Yes, that's high school, but he seems to be doing all right.
http://espn.go.com/espn/playbook/st...oach-punt-celebrates-innovative-mind-football

It's interesting, because blocked punts or huge punt returns (for TD or monster field position) are considered "game changers." Those are both bad things that happen with punts. Since the "coffin corner" kick is almost entirely dead, what positive thing happens -- with any consistency -- with a punt? So, unless your defense is truly a POS, it kinda makes sense to just not give up the ball unless you absolutely have to.
