“Nothing, nothing,” Beilein said when asked what he knows about Montana. “I’m trying to think where Wayne Tinkle used to coach.”

Tinkle was an assistant at Montana from 2001-2006 and then head coach from 2006-2014. He’s currently the head coach at Oregon State.

“We played them when I was at West Virginia in a tournament, but it was many coaches ago,” Beilein said.

The Grizzlies and Wolverines have two common opponents this season: UC Riverside and Penn State.

Montana lost at Penn State, 70-57, on Nov. 15 and beat UC Riverside in Missoula, Mont., 77-61, on Dec. 17.

Michigan beat UC Riverside, 87-42, at Crisler Center on Nov. 26 and won at Penn State, 72-63, on Feb. 21.

Lots of tongue in cheek tone here. Beilein knows exactly what the coaching tree is all about at this school. He's going to focus on transition and kick outs more than all year and pound it inside on offense. Long arms can screw up their inside...fingers crossed...

Former Montana coach moved on to MSU and coached Magic Johnson to the national title.

except they aren't playing the spartans.

I believe the original post subject was Montana is an unknown according to the Detroit Free Press. I was volunteering what Montana knowledge I knew that might be relevant to the state of Michigan, additionally the Tate Forcier popcorn fart, which I realize is football, not basketball.

Jeezus Christ we have some here that will trifle over any minutia.
