Hey...the Griz won by 19, doesn't anybody have anything to bitch about? What am I supposed to read all night if everyone isn't on the board whining like bitches and calling each other names like a bunch of 2-year-olds.
Zirg said:Man, and I thought UND was bad. Denver is the screaming sh***s. They are now 0-5, so that isn't exactly a revelation. They have to start THE skinniest collection of 5 white clothes-lines that I have ever seen in D1. And as lifelong white clothes-line myself I feel qualified to say that. Seriously, those kids were like 150 pounds a piece. Their jerseys fit like a tent on every one of them. If they don't have anyone on the team that can fill out those 5 inch wide tank-top parts (or whatever you call that part of the jersey over the shoulders), why outfit the skinniest team in D1 with the widest-possible collars? Among their top 6 players they have 3 frosh and 2 sophs, so this team is extremely young (and obviously underfed) and may improve in a year or 2, but seriously, they suck ASS right now. UND would beat them 8 out of 10 times and they are dreadful. Tinks tried to talk up UND's win over MO-KC and then tonight had the cajones to say in the post-game that Denver "might not lose by 19 points again all year" and other complete BS, not seen since Lou Holtz. If Denver can keep any D1 team within 19, it will be a major accomplishment. If we played Denver 100 times, we would beat them by more than 30 half the time. We played like crap and still won by 19. I can't emphasize enough how shitty Denver is. If UT-Arlington doesn't win by 19+ Friday night, I won't post again until 2009. I love Tinks and will always be behind him deep-down, but he needs to chill out a little and quit talking up obviously horrible opponants. It questions his credibility in my mind. I hope it is just coach-speak BS, and he is only trying to make his unimpressive wins look more impressive than they are to naive, clueless fans/boosters that only hear the pre-game shows and read egriz to form their opinions and don't know any better that UND and Denver are 2 of the worst D1 teams in America, period. And anyone who saw them in person knows it too. I put my entire reputation on the line that UT-Arlington wins by 19+ Friday night.
Zirg said:I like this Griz team too quite a lot, that probably didn't come across. I think we got we got all kinds of skilled guys. I mean if it was a fantasy b-ball league I would draft 7 or 8 Griz before anyone on Denver. Their 6'9" 180 pound frosh or soph Center had some game, but seriously. 180 pounds? That might work in NAIA, but not in D1.
When you win by 19 the positives are obvious, but to even try to insinuate that beating Denver by 19 is impressive, I just couldn't believe what I was hearing. I just can't get past that, if you couldn't tell. At some point you gotta admit that SOME teams you beat aren't that good, or nothing you say is believable.
Ok, some positives that I saw:
Selvig is growing on me. He can shoot the 3, Rebound, pass, and is EXTREMELY athletic for being 7'. I keep questioning if he is truly 7', because he seems way too graceful for being that tall, then he stands next to the other teams tallest guy and he skies over him. He is a complete player that will start chipping in and contributing rapidly I have no doubt. I was more excited about him tonight than anyone.
McGillis continues to show glimpses of super-stardom and an extreme lack of confidence in equal measures. He is frustrating to watch right now, because everyone (especially Jack) knows he is just not himself yet. I'm still not worried about him.
AJ was great again tonight, but he did have at least one really stupid Turn-over. 1 bad To for every 11 points scored works for me though. He is really close to breaking out-way closer than McGillis is. When Tinks screams at him after a mistake (as he does to everyone), I have been very impressed with how AJ takes Tinks criticism. He is quick to acknowledge his mistake and shows Tinks a lot of respect in a very mature manner. I couldn't be more impressed with him. He's everything you want in a player. Tremendous skill, great shooter, great drive-to-the-basket ability,point-guard skills, extremely athletic, great attitude, team-player. He was more excited on his assist to a Stauds 3 than he was all night. A guy that enjoys seeing his team-mates score is a winner in my book. We got a coup-and-a-half getting him. He's gonna be everyone's favorite before he's through.
Sharpie was Player of the game, so he was good too. It was a total-team win if there every was one. Most everyone played well, as they should against a mediocre opponent, although Qvale continues to show that he can miss a gimme lay-up or a dunk (Can he even dunk? Seriously? I'm am only half-kidding) even if no one defends him. How someone that tall can have such inability to score with no opposition is baffling. Oops I was trying to point out the positives. sorry
Like I said, I am putting my $ where my mouth is, you won't hear from me for a month it Tinks is right about Denver.
