Delaware Moving to FBS

As citay said I'd love for us to try and move up to join the new MWC/PAC Conference along with MSU. Would be the only true Western Conference and I think we'd fit in rather well, also add Gonzaga as an OLY sports pick to offset Hawaii being Football Only. As they aren't doing Divisions could go with Pods or Protected rivals, but it would be an awesome Conference:

MPAC (Mountain Pacific Conference):

OSU
Wazzu
Boise State
SJSU
Fresno State
SDSU
Hawaii/Gonzaga
UNLV
Nevada
Utah State
Wyoming
CSU
New Mexico
Air Force
Montana
Montana State

Something that won't happen for $500 Alex.

How many University of [State] teams are left in FCS football?
I count six: Montana; Idaho; Rhode Island; Maine; North Dakota; and South Dakota. Which ones am I forgetting?

I think we will eventually have to move up to stay where we are.

Thank you kindly.

Some more realignment news, OSU/Wazzu have a scheduling agreement but shockingly the clause that was to prevent the PAC2 from cherry picking MWC schools (after 2 years so OSU/Wazzu can get all the $$ meant for the PAC) was removed/not included. This means best case scenario if the MWC is cherry picked we could get called up to backfill and I hope we'd take the chance.

From the MWC Forum 6-7 teams would probably be poached at minimum: Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno, UNLV, SDSU and either Hawaii (New TZ/TV slot), SJSU, (Bay Area Market) or Nevada (State BOR won't let them split up). Let's say in this scenario $$ matters so SJSU and Hawaii are added leaving 5 MWC schools. Simple fix would be to add NMSU, UTEP and then us to get to 9, could then add Idaho to get to 10 and then go after a few more Big Sky or MVFC schools, would be a pretty good looking Conference:

NEW MWC:

Montana
Montana State
Wyoming
Idaho
Nevada
Utah State
Air Force
New Mexico
NMSU
UTEP

Other options to get to 12: NDSU, SDSU, Sac State, North Dakota, South Dakota, UC-Davis

I hope Montana ditches the Big Sky and leaves the Northern Wyoming JUCO Knittens McCrabscratchy Fleabag Shorthairs in the dust. I don't care about them or the "rivalry" some think exists... The ONLY team I would insist is in any Conference the Griz end up in is Idaho because they are the ONLY team in the BSC that owns the Griz...

The Griz have eviscerated every other team in the all time records.

Ya, just "some."

Does Penn count? Does the Ivy League count as FCS when they don't participate in the FCS playoffs?

I think the only way this option is viable is as one conference with two large divisions to get more media money and unite the whole region. I like the idea of a Front division and coastal division.

FCS is in a pretty sad state. Honestly, I’m not sure what Montana or Montana state can do. CUSA already covers from New Mexico, to Florida and all the way to Delaware….maybe they would accept a plea from UM and MSU if we got on our knees and begged……at this point that would be better than remaining in an increasingly watered down FCS and in a conference with a team that plays in a high school stadium, another that considered dropping football a couple years back, and one whose stadium (and entire town) smells like cow manure….and for the purists who argue that UM is still right where it belongs, just take a look around….its gotten so bad….none of the premier programs that we considered peers and rivals are even around any longer, and some have moved from D2 to FCS and then to the FBS just in the last 20 years…..it’s freaking sad

I thought about this in the listing. Penn is a private institution even though the name makes it confusing. So, it’s not really a “University of [insert state]” in the true sense of the term.

So, we have: Montana; Idaho; Rhode Island; Maine; North Dakota; South Dakota; and New Hampshire left in FCS.

You might get your chance. The Pac-2 just signed a one year scheduling deal with the MWC. Why sign a one year deal other than to just buy time? They need a schedule filled out for next year and time is running out. This deal also gets them to closer when the MWC tv deal runs out. I think WSU, and OSU are going to grab Boise, San Diego State, Fresno State, UNLV, Colorado State, Air Force and maybe a couple AAC teams. Those schools will take the MWC's tv contract spot most likely. That part sucks.

This will leave the MWC with Hawaii (football only), San Jose State, Nevada, Utah State and Wyoming. If that happens hopefully, the MWC could add some Big Sky schools and probably NMSU and UTEP. If the Montana schools and Idaho came along with maybe Northern Arizona I think that might be a nice regional conference. Personally, I think the G5 will soon be the new FCS and I would enjoy a playoff system.

You do understand the MWC will actively renegotiate a new TV deal well before the existing one runs out? Thus anyone leaving has to pay a $17 million exit fee at least? The exit fees do not expire with the TV deal.

Yes, but if it becomes known some schools want to leave they could delay the process.
I'm thinking that if 6 or 7 of the 11 full time members want to leave they could probably vote to reduce the exit fees. But you may be right, if it would take something like a unanimous vote to change the fee amounts.
