Delaware - Hit-drop Tackle

For those who watched Sammy's breakdown of the Delaware/Lafayette game, he noted two Delaware tackles that resulted in injuries to Lafayette players. He was not sure they were "hit-drop tackles" which are being scrutinized by the NFL. He also said it was difficult to criticize the tacklers because their sole focus is to stop the ball carrier with a currently legal tackle.

I am being very careful not to insinuate that Delaware plays dirty. However, I am hopeful none of our players are injured Saturday night by this kind of a tackle.

If they were banned I'm not sure how you would bring down a player from behind. I just watched a ruined World Cup Rugby final because officials are trying to make a dangerous game safe. It hasn't worked in rugby and I can't see it working in football.

Ahhh….hip-drop. Don’t tell my wife of the misunderstanding. She keeps telling me to wear my hearing aids. I obviously never played the game!

One that I was sad, in a way, to see go was the "blind side" block ... sometimes referred to as a "decleater." But I can also understand why they made it a foul. Saw a great response in a game a bit ago: The blocker cut into the path of the would-be tackler, totally turned his back on him, and then slowed down enough so the guy ran up his back. Legal and very effective.
