Delaware Blue Hens Scouting Report

In defense of the frosh QB he was deer in headlights until the second half and improving in leaps and bounds.
But WaGriz is whole different level as is the Griz defense. Lafayette defense 3-3-5 doesn't even look like ours.

Unless Delaware's starting QB returns this week, It's quite likely to happen again with a true freshman playing in WaGriz against this Montana defense.

Delaware also runs a 3-3-5

Agree, if they run that {Sammy} off man coverage against us our WRs, slot and TEs will have a field day.

I've been worried about every game since NAU, except this one. Maybe that's a bad sign, but I just don't see UD winning this one. Griz by a lot.
I’m actually the opposite and am very nervous about this one. Making some blue hen wings to settle my nerves

Going back and watching the game, Minicucci looks far from a deer in the headlights even in that $h*tshow of a first half. He's agile and extended several plays (at least 3) early due to his athleticism, made some good throws and reads showing patience and the ability to throw the ball away when needed. He had a couple balls that were slightly off the mark but should have been hauled into his receivers. His third interception is the only one that was really his fault, and his receiver actually got bumped off his route by the DB and fell down. I would also go back and look at the busted play on their first td and see the shot he laid on the pursuing defenders. He's not afraid of contact and will scramble and move up field. He did settle in and look really good at the end of the first half and was on fire during the second half.

We need to get pressure on him if he gets the start and hit him early and often as I said before.

One other Statistic that has plagued us all year that wan't mentioned in Brint's write-up is penalties. I don't think it will be enough to sway this game unless they are at very inopportune times, but Delaware has a total of 54 penalties on the year for 552 yards (avg of 46 ypg). Montana has 73 for 672 yards (avg of 61 ypg).  I would add this to a key to the game, and something this team needs to clean up moving forward. It's really one of the only categories that hasn't been corrected this season.

So its possible that Delware will understand Montanas blitzing scheme since they play some form of it a bunch. That likely works both ways.

From the Villanova game forward was my reference point.

Good scouting report/info as always...

It's playoff football, probably closer than a lot think.
I still think Griz win by 10-ish+, and it may be a late score one way or the other that gives us that final.

Wait a tic. No weather drama this year? I'm stunned. December/playoffs. I was sure there would be droves of moronic comments about how the weather will affect the game.

You dudes are slippin

What an awesome scouting report and recap of our season.

I don’t like picking my team to lose, but I have you guys at 34-13. Someone earlier in this thread mentioned we’re wounded. We really are. While we have nothing to lose with all these injuries that have mounted, I just don’t think we have enough talent available to keep up. A shame because if we were healthy throughout the year, I think this matchup happens at least one round later.

Griz have played all year without a starting DE and all-conference TE. So while I feel for the Hens, no excuses allowed for injuries. Next man up!

I'm not sold on your score here, GH81. Your team is looking good, and overcoming adversity pulling out wins wounded. I think it's going to be a fun hard fought game to watch. I for one don't like the bye the GRIZ are coming off of. They historically don't do well coming off a bye...as in the stats really suck, so it's actually going to be much more interesting than a lot of folks are thinking...

Gotcha. That’s nothing though compared to two starting QBs, possibly two Rbs, two of your top four WR’s, your RG, and 2 starting Cbs. There’s only so many next man ups with 63 scholarships.

But hoping we can at least give you guys a fight. Looks like there will be some weather!

I hear ya on the bye week. Can be tough to shake off the rust.

They have overcome adversity. There’s some what ifs for had we been healthy but watered down CAA or not, I’m very proud of what UD has accomplished this year with all the injuries. They certainly happen but we’ve been snake bit this year. Not saying we were contenders, but a 9-3 season after what Hens fans call “the lost decade” has been fun.

Well we ARE down to our 3rd string LG, but it is what it is….your injury list reminds me of ours a couple years ago when we were using a WR at RB because the first 5 were injured.

All I know is that if 26,00-27,000 fans show up then we will win.The heart of this team all year has been our defense along with the greatest fans in the FCS backing them up. We have great senior leaders on the Defensive side of the ball and I won't be surprised if our D gets a shutout. Our offense should be fined. Just be consistent and no turnovers. Easy W!

There's still a lot of seats left and it doesn't seem like they've sold a lot since yesterday. Probably going to be around 20,000ish, which is still pretty good for a playoff game against a non top ten team.
