Seriously? If that was a for real pre-game hype-up speech we are in total trouble. I mean it really made me want to just get out there and smash someone, you know. Did anyone else feel underwhelmed and a little cheated with a coach who just does not have any fire in the belly? Wow. Just wow.

+1
I thought it was pretty patheitc, and there was quite a bit of laughing at it in the section I was sitting in.

"Go back to Bobcat nation hater"

Dear Big G, FYI I've never been to Bobcat Nation. I bleed maroon and silver, graduated from U of M (1970 and 1973) with two degrees and have had season NZ tickets for 11 years, been on EGRIZ since 2009 and travel long distances to watch the games. And I'm entitled here to comment that our current coach is not very inspirational. Thanks for playing...

If you need an inspirational speech to get up for the game, then you are in trouble. Ask any Bobcat who has listened to a Coach Ron Ash speech.

Thank you for playing, but according to jcu if you say anything bad about the Griz you are a Bobcat fan, his rules not mine.

It's not if "you say anything bad" it's when EVERYTHING that comes out of your mouth is bad that you are labeled a troll.

This.

Actually, I have heard that speech before granted it was well over 40 years ago. Its Not what you want hear from him. In no uncertain terms he clearly stated failure to execute to the level he wants will turn your life to living hell. There will be no "fun" anwhere. No one wants to be in MDs dog house or even close too it. When you hear MD say the "coaches have made this fun for you" that really makes Bobby saying "we'll get that fixed" seem like hestaking everyone out for ice cream.

As the folks who sit around us commented: "Was this for real?" "Are you calling this motivational?" "Boring, boring!"

I know a lot of us, me included, aren't fans of Mick Delaney when it comes to coaching. But I had the opportunity to be a part of the game day experience on Saturday, and heard Delaney give his pregame speech to the team before warm ups. I was honestly surprised at how good he was at pumping the team up... He said things that I didn't think I'd ever hear from him... He seems like a fatherly, or "grandfatherly" figure in the public's eyes, but is completely different behind the scenes. The guy is a great motivator, but he just doesn't have it as a head coach. I can see why the players like him, but we do need to have someone new who can coach/make adjustments.

...players need reinforcement...
...not a bunch of rah rah bullsiht...
...md provides that reinforcement...
...personally thought it waz butteiful...

... 8-) ...

get em', thanks for that insight. I've heard current players say Delaney makes them want to run through the gates of hell for him before every game. He's an excellent motivator and has an amazing connection with the current players on the team. Anyone who thinks otherwise just doesn't know what's going on inside the lockerroom, in the meeting rooms and on the practice field.

HAVING said that, I don't know how many times I've heard Griz players over the years, from Read to Delaney, say they don't need ANYTHING besides the few seconds inside the Wash-Griz tunnel to motivate them. That's where the fire comes from. Those guys say those few seconds before they run out is as intense as anything has been, or will ever be in their lives, and it's all the motivation they need.

I guess the game against Sac State was better than we thought. How is that? Instead of criticizing the staff, team, etc EGRIZZERS can only come up with how weak the student attendance was, and dispute pregame motivation.

Hell, I'd take those every game. Honestly, are those things that important?

That is pretty shallow if true. Intense for the moment and for twenty year olds, sure, but life will have much more intensity and challenge to offer for all of them. Football is a metaphor for life and can help shape them for what is to come, but in the scheme of things, minute. But some like to make it out to be more than it is. Hence, our beloved egriz.

HAHA, I get it. So we as fans ask them to beat the living s--t out of their bodies for four or five years for OUR entertainment, nothing more. We as fans rip them when they're not intense enough (I don't know how many "Where's the fire" threads we have on Egriz over the years). We ask these kids to give every single thing they have of themselves for the name MONTANA, and then we call them SHALLOW for actually feeling that playing for MONTANA is the biggest thing in their lives?? Okkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk.

Honestly, if it were in reverse, and a former player did an interview and said "You know, it really wasn't that cool, the tunnel was really quiet most days, and the crowd wasn't anything that great" that dude would be ripped apart on Egriz for the rest of his life.
