Delaney's "Doghouse"

Do you agree or disagree that it was poor decision making by the coach? I am not questioning that he brings some discipline, and that he is very old, like yourself..I like old guys..
 
OK, young fellow...I do agree it was a bad decision, however, the good he is doing for our program is much greater than the bad. He will make more mistakes, I suspect, but consider the pressure packed situation he is in....
 
I agree with you on the cleaning up of the program, and the fact that he is under immense pressure. Still can't do things as silly as kick twice in a game, or manage the clock as improperly as he has during a few moments of this season. Things to learn from I guess, but after being in the game, at a relatively high level for 40+ years, seems like these "learning" mistakes should not happen. But, I have never been in the position of coaching a mid-level college football team, with a fanbase that has extremely unfair expections. Thus, I suppose I don't really know shit..

Edit: I do fully agree that he is tackling a much larger assignment then just winning football games..Also, when do you use "then," and when do you use "than?" Seriously, I need help..

Wow! I have 2 very outstanding children 1 who is a two time state champion and 1 who will follow in the next year or so. Both academic all state and both don't get away with much at home. I parent I expect coaches to coach.
I understand kids who are in sports and there is nothing worse than a bunch of off the field distractions. Kids don't excel! Teams don't excel! So PT got any kids or do you just name call?

Clock management gaffes have been far more costly (e.g., NAU first half and EWU game end) than the kickoff decision. I don't have a problem with him wanting to finish with the wind; it was blowing pretty good. But clock management has been totally sophomoric.
 
Haynes started the first two games, played in the next two, but has not appeared in the last two. Did anyone notice whether he is still suiting up; that seems a nasty progression. I recall some drops early on. Then there is Kemp, who has not played a down; are these guys even on the roster anymore? Both are on the gogriz.com roster, but we know how much that means.
 
Lets all be honest.............Mick was the glue that held together a train wreck. One that was exploited by engstrom. So far the kids have bought in and have played damn hard.
Hopefully we see a bunch of Montana football players playing with confidence and resolve and not in-decision and confusion. A lot has been said about flying around and not in position and IMO thats the coaches jobs-to make sure everyone understands there 1/11th. Both on and off the field. The only thing I know is Montana has a group of very fine individuals on the field who want to win. The coaches need to let them succeed without hesitation. They need to start coaching.

What you wrote so right on!!! Some people are looking to criticize. They want to live in misery. The problem, as it seems to me, is that some people repeated post negative statements about 100s of things related to the Griz. In this guy's opinion, they are looking for others like them... people who love to live in misery---glass half full type of people.

It is really too bad. There are lots of great things happening within the program right now. It is unfortunate that some people don't see that the team has withstood a terrible hit (s) and are still playing their hearts out. Maybe we should be proud of this team more than any others and keep the complaining to down a tad. The team is doing well is very difficult times!
 
Maybe Mick doesn't have a choice....ever consider that? Ash didn't have much of a choice in disciplining players when he took over the shit storm in Bozeman. The BOR may have given the athletic department certain guidelines to follow in light of recent developments. Just sayin.

For somebody who apparently has very smart children, you sure do have some issues with making a proper sentence. I find that surprising. With that said, I have no problem if Delaney is punishing kids as he sees fit. It's his prerogative as coach to do that, I think we should let him do such.

I could see what you are saying to be true with issues that may be in the "public eye," but I think AZ Griz is talking about issues that are more in-house, relating to the team itself. With that said, my recommendation to the players would be, stay out of the goddamn doghouse. There is obviously a precedent being set by Coach Delaney. As a player, you need to realize this fact.
 
Delaney is running a tight ship, which is exactly what he needs to do. Like it or not, wins and losses aren't priority this year. There are diciplined college programs and there are undiciplined college programs. University of Montana football should be about kicking ass on the field and in the classroom while contributing positively to our community. No compromises. At least this is what I hope and think what Delaney is reinforcing.
 
The entire coaching staff came over to my house last night for victory cigars and to watch Football Night in America. They told me that Sean Haynes has been injured and is not in Delaney's hypothetical and inescapable Doghouse. That is all I could get out of them though, because they left early after Player Rep was seen peering through the kitchen window at us again.

He wasn't even on the sideline against EWU, I looked for him

For the record...I didn't think we needed a discipline minded coach. ONE guilty player does not mean the last coach needed changing....

Pflu was trying to get things installed into the university for the athletes to understand how important certain issues were. He got shot down, according to the Missoulian...for whatever that's worth.

This was a fuck up of a decision from the get go. Fuckstrom got what he wanted, even though it wasn't needed.

The firing of Pflu will be looked back on as a big mistake, discipline or not. Delaney will be viewed as a loser if he doesn't win, and I mean "playoff" wins. Without wins, fans are fickle about discipline.Just ask Tom Coughlin.
