Delaney will resign at the end of the season.

I'm thinking you can look at how Engstrom's other hires are going and get an idea of how a coaching hire might go. A Couture replacement hasn't been announced, Kia's replacement hasn't been announced, nor has there been a serious effort to replace Foley. Durringer hasn't really been replaced. The UM is just narrowing it's research director search--and research was a stated Engstrom priority two years ago. The quick pick to replace the Big Sky Conference coach of the year has been a bust.
Given all that, is it really likely Engstrom is capable of coming up with a good coaching staff by January so recruiting won't be a total bust?

I think Delaney needs a couple of years to get his players in place :thumb:
Cant disagree more. HIS players will become the next coaches players at the end of next year (based upon currently contract) then we have to wait for that coach to insert HIS type of recruit.

That's 4-5 years working our way back to stability and prominence. No Way. Make the change in the off season. Give our next long term coach a jump start. There's so much young talent already here. We can fill gaps with a few JC guys next two years where veteran play and leadership is needed. Along with out recruiting every other program in the PNW to grow our young talent pool.

I appreciate Mick! Either way he gets his $$$ and to be honest he deserves it for stepping into the fire that Engstrom created unnecessarily through his rash termination of O'Day and Pflugrad. The administration can "defer" his compensation into future years. Spread out the payments and ease the financial commitment they made to him. This allows for another coach to come in and immediately begin to get us back to prominence.

This is the toughest conference in the FCS division by far. More depth, more overall talent, better coaching and passionate fans at nearly every stop! Kids come here to win! Period. We need to get back to that ASAP before other programs close the gap more then they have this year. I love Montana and in state players but we better get some more out of state talent like everyone else, too! There's not enough in state talent to monopolize so we better get after it recruiting wise as well.

Work to do
Go Griz

I dont think you are looking at this from the right perspective, your administration wants to rebuild the program so that it is a respected clean program, it will take time to put the rapes scandal, tasergate incidents and the NCAA investigation in the rear view mirror. during that time you will need some sort of stability, winning football games is secondary. If Delaney leaves you will need to be recruiting a HC at the same time as having your first losing season in eons, the NCAA possibly laying down sanctions, and your ex QB's rape trial is firing up, the administration's requirements will be to run a clean program first rather than maintain a winning tradition. You will need stability for another year or two, Delaney may get a contract extension. You don't need a young aggressive HC, what you will need is a coach with HC experience in rebuilding and running a clean program.

Cats2506 should be required to register as an enemy agent from the Gallatin who apparently doesn't believe enough damage has already been done to UM and its athletic program. We really don't need any freakin' outsider inflicting more...

Jonathan Smith would be a poor hire as a head coach right now. I think he could be good someday. We need someone with head coaching or at least some coordinating experience.
Possibly you missed that Smith was the UM OC for two years.

That said, I agree he is not likely ready for this mess.

I don't think today's loss was his fault at all. You can place this one at the feet of Rosenbauch.
Certainly OC Rosenbach needs to be called out for Montana's inability to stop the UND passing game and allow 660 yards passing. Nice call. 34 points should win a game.

If he would have established the run like he should have their offense would not have had a chance to put up numbers like that. I don't expect you to know that though.
