Football coaching has changed, gone are the days of the wise old sage Jo Pa, Bowden, Holtz......its now a younger and more dynamic coaches game (Kiffin, Myer, Kelly, Stoops, Kelly, etc.). Our next coach needs to be in that mold or we are going to start losing recruits. While we have a huge seating capacity advantage, the rest of the facilities are lacking and the game day experience the U continues to charge a premium for had been stale for at least 5 years now.
EWU is getting kids because they have a younger coach, a gimmick field and plans to modernize their facility (coaches offices, weight room, locker rooms, remove the track). If they win the chipper this year they will become the conference power, a place that we held for nearly 20 years.
UM administrations (past and present) have siphoned off huge sums of $ generated from athletics and invested very little (other than a few stadium expansions that paid for themselves) back into the programs. I suppose I should add lights too, but I firmly believe that had MSU not installed them first, they would not exist at WGS. Another sub par year and I predict donations will take a huge hit, making any "planned improvements" to our facilities nothing more than a dream.
