Delaney now 8th for coach of the year voting

I'll vote in two weeks. If we are 10-2, he's deserving of the award, given the turn around from last year. If we drop one or two of the next games then not so much.

This forum has been inundated with multiple fire delaney threads, and now there is this post about voting him to be the coach of the year? More than a little hypocritical don't you think? ?

No, it's not hypocritical at all. BWahlberg posted this thread and he has not ever once that I am aware of supported firing Delaney in any threads. Sure he may have questioned some of the coaching calls but who hasn't and we are all entitled to that opinion anyway.

The only way this would be hypocritical is if any poster who was calling for Delaney to be fired was suddenly supporting him to be coach of the year. My mom could have told you that one Einstein.

That's correct, I've brought up issues that I see (as a fan) however I've done that with Pflu and Hauck too. Regardless of my feelings on their tenure I will bring up concerns I see.

Now if you look at that list, the front runner is obviously Bohl, and until NDSU drops a game I don't see how he isn't the winner of an award like this. Also I think SE Louisana's coach is doing a heck of a job considering he's got them playing incredibly well this year.

However one thing I find interesting, and I'm not meaning to make this a smack discussion, is that Rob Ash is currently #2 in the polls. Ash is a fine coach, IMO, but we usually see his teams squander opportunities despite being over-loaded with talent. They could be on that path again this year. Now they could also win out the regular season and land a seed and be just fine too - that'll get solved on the field.

I just find it interesting that Delaney doesn't get more consideration for the job he's done this year to have this team at 8-2 at this point, all things considered. Delaney is working with a very young group of assistant coaches. Additionally this group, compared to many FCS coaching staffs, is probably one of the more inexerpeinced too. Now that doesn't mean they're bad, but they just are what they are, a lot of guys new/newer to their jobs that are just getting started in their coaching career. Additionally Mick's coming off the worst season in the last 2 decades, and he's turning it around with a lot of the same guys they had last year, save a few important players like Johnson and Van. They changed the offense and with that they've won 8 games this year with players that were recruited and trained to run a spread/hurry-up offense. But they're doing that with a more traditional-style of offense. Last year special teams was a big issue for the Griz, mostly with execution and some would say play-calling. This year special teams play can be attributed to being key in two of our wins. Finally look at the low amount of frequency a football player's name has shown up on the arrest report. One player gets suspended for 6 months (roughly) for possession of exstacy and another gets suspended for a game after being very drunk and breaking a sign. There's been other discipline issues that didn't make the papers but he's handled that with swift action through suspensions and even just removing players from the team - to prevent the program getting another black eye. By in large, under his watch, the amount of negative issues have really receded.

This vote and this poll, in my mind, is way to say thank you and support Mick, his coaches, the team, and the athletic department for their accomplishments this season. I don't mean to make it an indicator of what to do going forward or as a statement on what's happened in the past.

Just support the guy, he's done a lot of good for this team and deserves our votes for that.

No, apparently (if you believe what you read on eGriz) he deserves to have signs planted in his front yard, his car keyed, his bushes cut down, his house tagged, and his grandchildren bullied....all until he packs up and gets the eff out of here!

:D :D :D

I'm not saying Mick is perfect. He has flaws and too be honest the only coach deserving is the ndsu coach. In my opinion. However look at what Mick has done with this program .

Took over after head coach, AD get fired.
Left with a very complex off. And player sets
Ncaa sanctions looming for the university.
Head QB on trial...many in town were against him
Coming off a great 2011 season.
Half a year to get this team together.

What happened?
A poor year record wise.
Football team discipline goes way up
Changes off.
Players respect him
Stands by and supports JJ. And JJ stays
Replaces staff members
2013 conditioning said by players...some of toughest they have seen
Ncaa sanctions hit...university reeling
2013 season 8-2 looks like 9-3 or 10-2 finish
Back in playoffs
Great recruiter
Players love this guy
Earns another contract!

This guy has earned respect and he saved this program when many couldn't have. Many peoplewwould expect this program to suffer. Definitely when you have play in one of the toughest conf. I thank Mick for taking on the challenge and getting this program back on track. Pretty remarkable to be honest.

FYI........you guys might want to watch what you say about Delaney. His parents might become upset and post something about you here on eGriz or "attack" you at a game.

Is there any other way to vote besides Facebook? I prefer to use that shit stain of a website as little as possible.

The Eddie Robinson Award candidates was released on the 19th and does not include either Delaney or Ash on the list. Thoughts...

With the turn around the Griz have compared to last season one would think Delaney could have at least made the list but factors such as who teams have beaten probably eliminated him from the list. Hopefully the Griz can defeat the Bobcats and make a deep playoff run.

It will likely come down to NDSU versus EWU coaches for this award with their FBS victories, my guess is the Bison coach will win again but hope they do not win another national title.

I wonder if the Bobcat fans regret voting so much for Ash on the Liberty Mutual coach of the year???

I agree that Coach Delaney is a nice guy, and I would gladly vote for him in a "Nice Guy of the Year" contest, but at best Delaney is a mediocre coach.

You would not consider raising his name as a Coach of the Year candidate if JJ had not stayed at UM and pulled victory out of loss on several occasions. Delaney needs to retire and enjoy his senior years in relaxation and comfort.

What he said ^^^^^
+100... ... :egriz:

I do find it humorous that people say "well, he's damned lucky JJ stayed, because JJ makes him look like a lot better coach than he really is".

How good with Baldwin look without Adams? Or Ash without McGhee?
EWU has been simply reloading at "Q" for quite some time now... :egriz:
