The GRIZ pass defense has been a problem all year, with very little improvement, or no improvement, depending on your opinion. The remainder of the season should be to end 2012 on a high note, with an emphasis on improving toward 2013. In my opinion, evaluation of our secondary and coaching strategy needs to be the main emphasis for the remaining games of 2012.
I believe Ty Gregorak needs to take advantage of no playoff pressure, and experiment with personnel, and strategy. 1st of all, our pass defense cannot get any worse, give these kids the green light and play press and bump coverage. Bag the soft shell zones for our CB's, entirely rest this season. We already know, it does not work!!! As for safeties, straighten out Hermanson, and Tully, and experiment with personnel changes. Figure the hell out what all our safeties do well, strengths, and weaknesses, and plan for 2013!
With that said, myself and many others, are questioning Gregorak's future as DC. The pass defense has underachieved, and not much positive hope for future. Should the remainder of the year be an evaluation for Gregorak? If so, to what extent? What would we like to see collectively from the defense for the rest of this season? What improvements and/or changes would be enough to keep Ty off the hot seat going into 2013? To what extent can the struggles continue to say "enough is enough", and find a new DC?
I will be fine if the defense struggles to perform if they are experimenting to correct it toward next year. However, if they continue doing what they have, I will continue to lose faith in Ty Gregorak as our DC. I like the guy, and still believe, he can be one hell of a DC. I just don't know if he will do what is necessary to live up to that believe.
Anyone know who our healthy safeties are? Any CB's capable of converting to Safety? Will Gamboa be healthy to see some time at Safety?
As for offense, it is hard to argue when an offense is putting up 30 points per game. I like the future with Rosenbach, if he will learn to keep doing what is working, and come through better down the stretch. I really feel he will continue to become a better OC. I hope we can keep the ideas and posts to the defense only.
