Really? I don't think that was the case at all. I almost wanted to use a hoops line here.

This isn’t true. The gogriz stats are messed up and split stats between “Pat Hayden” and “Patrick Hayden”.

Hayden has 10 tackles and Ramos has 9. Tackles don’t tell the whole story though. Pat has done a very good job at resetting the line of scrimmage, Ramos has not. On running plays, Ramos has consistently been pushed backwards. On passing plays, he has yet to explode off of the line to reset the LOS. Hayden, on the other hand, holds the LOS in the running game, and has been exploding off the line in the passing game, often getting 1-2 yards into the backfield.

It does look like Ramos has a better gas tank than Hayden, but the explosiveness and in-game impact is drastically in Pat’s favor. Here’s to hoping they both continue to improve! Go Griz!

Obviously, a big mistake. I recall the play, but from recollection and the video I can't see what happened. Didn't see guys standing around. Just didn't see guys in coverage or near the receiver. Thx.

I’m literally arguing NONE of that. My point is that through FIVE games our NT is limited to “eating up blocks”. I know we all knew we’d miss Gubner, but was he really the lynchpin to making this entire defensive scheme work? What good does it do to get 1-2 yards into the backfield when the QB is 5-7 yards back?

I was simply correcting your statement on Ramos having more tackles than Hayden. I had taken that statement as you implying Ramos is playing better than Hayden, which i disagree with.

When your NT explodes off of the line and is instantaneously 1-2 yards into the backfield, the QB immediately feels pressure and is more likely to drop their eyes. It helps force rushed/bad decisions and frequently cuts the field in half. The NT does not need many sacks/TFL’s or even tackles to drastically impact the game.

Our defense is going to look better tomorrow. Go Griz!

Not implying that about Ramos at all..sorry for the confusion. But the fact Hayden has 10 and Ramos has 9 kinda makes my point still…Merely pointing out that a guy who has underwhelmed for his time here had more tackles (I thought) than the guy brought in to replace Gub.

Pretty sure only having 2 returning starters in the front 6-7 is the biggest difference, not just the one position at nose. I think the biggest effect on the overall defense might be in the linebacker group. We rolled 6 last year with very little drop off.
