I will admit that the defensive stats from this years Griz D is worse than last year stats. Griz D played very well last year against CP, probably one of the best games the D had last year, until the last drive.
Great. That was my point, and the only one I was trying to make. I don't agree about the last drive. 11 plays for 36 yards at the end of the game, seems pretty damn good to me. 3.3 yards per play.
More about the time left in the game, pretty sure every play ended up out of bounds. Keep one in bounds and the game over.
How does a team defend the sidelines without giving up running and passing yardage down the interior of the field. If you station one defender towards each sideline (and one defender doesn't necessarily keep a runner from getting out of bounds, then you reduce your defenders by 2 in the main portion of the field. I have never heard of defending the sidelines in football ever. Not once. Seems silly to me.
Again, 11 plays for 36 yards. 2-5 passing for 17 yards. 5 runs for 5, 2, 2, 6, 4., or 19 yards.
If UM had put defenders in unusual position on each sideline on the 5 pass plays (so had 2 less defenders to defend the pass, do you not think they migh have completed more passes for more yardage? And how about runs? Do you think that CP would not more up the interior of the field if 2 defenders were standing by the sidelines.
I'm sorry, but the never played the game thing comes to mind each time this subject comes up.
