Defense 2025

It’s really simple. Starts up front on both sides of the ball. Bobby needs to get the horses up front. Apparently he forgot what worked his first time around. Including his base defense. No DOLA means you sit home watching on TV.

But they were playing the wrong defense, the gimmick known as the 3-3-5 that almost no one uses, college or pro, as their base defense !!!

SDU used it once on third down to spy TM--he went for 28.
 
Yes, brown bear, someone needs to introduce Coach Hauck to great GRIZ DT's Brian Toone from Butte, America and his battery mate Randy Riley from 27-28 years ago, both weighed 290-300 lbs, had nonstop motors , stuffed the run, and played in a tough 4-3-4 base GRIZ defense, just like NDSU, SDSU, USD, and MSU did today.

And for Danny Downers that say, " We just can't recruit big, strong mobile DT's @ to The FCS and and UM anymore, " please explain how Don Read, Mick Dennehy, Joe Glenn, and Bobby Hauck 1.0 did exactly just that BP ( Before Portal), and how NDSU, SDSU, USD, and MSU are successfully recruiting big, strong, mobile DT's today, AP ( After Portal ). Given the portal and the approximately 4,000 student-athletes in it, we can recruit these DT's more easily today than we could 25-30 years ago BP !!!

Cats did not run a 4-3-4 yesterday. They ran a 4-2-5 which is very similar to a 3-3-5.

Yea they did give up two fifty yard runs. They also held USD to their lowest point total of the year except for the Wisconsin game.
They definitely played good defense.
 
Anybody else notice yesterday how the Dakotas were able to go into a nickel package and handle each other’s run game with only a 5 man box. Does seem to come with some weakness on the outside to a mobile QB, but all of them were willing to give up 5-10 to fight another down on occasion than give up the big play for the most part.
