Decision made

What I meant was that they played a handful of nationally ranked teams and almost came out on top. If they beat SDSU, Weber State, EWU, Kennesaw State and NAU....all close games that they had a chance to win, they are easily in the top 10. I think we under estimated them again this year and thought we would walk in and move right on to the playoffs. Stitt was faced with a lot of challenges this year, and I think given some time things will improve. It took Hill 4 years to get Weber to where they are. Why are we so fast to toss Stitt to the curb? I think Haslam would be making a huge mistake to fire Stitt now. It just isn't the right time. He needs at least 2 more years to get his system in place, and when he does, watch out.
Stick to education, i'm sure your knowledge is more grounded in that area... :egriz:

If UM and Kent H were happy with Stitt they would have extended his contract prior to the Brawl.

I believe the Brawl and playoffs were a bench mark for Stitt to reach and he did not meet that bench mark. He may have gotten an extension if he had.

I think Stitt has asked Kent to save his job and give him a chance to make changes to coaching staff. I have a feeling Stitt is making contacts for DC and ST coach to see who has interest. Maybe if he comes back with names of very solid candidates and willing to take the positions Kent would entertain an extension.

However if your Stitt how do you sell a job to a DC etc if you don’t even have your own contract extended!

I think Stitt a company are out!

I think if Kent does offer an extension it will be by Wednesday. If we don’t hear something I can see news coming out after Thanksgiving that Stitt contract will not b extended!

Different world now with the early signing period in December. My guess is that in either case the decision will have to be made very quickly. Stitt will need a contract asap to secure the current commits. If they go in a different direction they would need to act just as quick to see if there is any fallout from a coaching change.

Sorry but not even close. Kent’s position has always been to evaluate at seasons end. With the importance of every offseason week the decision couldn’t wait and that’s why it’s already been made. The delay in announcing is completely to let everyone cool down.

Today a lot of people close to the program (boosters and coaches) will begin to discuss the extension agreement being done. Couple days of that talk and the official announcement will follow.

C'mon man,

Just give the guy a raise and a 3 year contract, but diddle around for a week or 2 to inhibit the early signing period.

It's an assumption that people are going to cool down over this.

If he truly thinks folks will cool down after this....yikes - they may, but it would take longer than just the remainder of the weekend or the early part of this week. :censored: :|

We don’t have a choice. Haslam can do what he wants and it sounds like he has which delights the sugar coaters.

They better get their check books out, because there is going to be a substantial financial hit, which UM is not in a position to absorb.

Far as I know, this thread is speculation, as nothing has been announced. Hopefully what actually happens is drastically different than what has been said here. If Kent gives Stitt a 1 year extension, I have to imagine that nothing less than 2 playoff wins a a W vs Agstate keeps their jobs.

Kent does what has been RUMORED on this post, he needs fired-end of story.

Still holding out hope that stitthead and co are fired, allowing our new pres and whomever else does the hiring to find a suitable candidate to bring us back to even relevancy.

You don’t understand a proper employment structure. When you employ someone at a level where they have their own staff they have the authority to make those staffing decisions. Once you take that from them employment should end because you are saying you have no faith in their ability to perform their job.

BWAHAHA! You have no idea. If one of my employees had a staff member that wasn’t performing, he’d be gone. But I only had 154 people working on multi-million dollar aircraft, so...nothing important like football

Whether or not this staff member is or isn’t performing is a matter of opinion. One that may not be shared amongst those with much more pull than you have in this situation. The head coach is the resident expert on football matters and the performance of his staff is something that he is uniquely qualified to assess.
I think this analysis is facile. If the head coach were "uniquely qualified to assess" who should be on his staff, then why did Haslem insist that Ty Gregorak be retained when the head coach was first hired? It would not be unusual to insist on certain personnel changes as a condition in an offer for a new contract. The agreement with the current head coach ends in a few months and he has no right to dictate terms of what UM offers -- he can decide not to accept the offer, but that's just the way the ball bounces sometimes.

We had no head coach at the time and Haslam had every right to "make conditions" to maintain some continuity. Were they not acceptable to Stitt at the time, he could have said no.Frankly if the rumors are true as to Stitts "demands" more power to him. haslam has the right to say "no" to the conditions Stitt lays out. I don't know what the right answer is but I will say Stitt laying out what he believes needs to happen for him to be the most successful certainly increases my respect for him. I can't imagine why he would want to operate under a one year contract that is essentially saying we want to replace you but not right now OR the clear implication the shots are being called by a few Boosters. Whay can't some "get" that negotiation is just that. If we are in the position of telling a coach "how its going to be, take it or leave it" and that coach is willing to accept it, we are in far worse trouble than losing to the cats or missing the playoffs in one of the most screwed up selection processes ever.

I guess it safe to say Dennis Washington other than receiving accolades at WG has ever been to a football game, he has better thing to do.

. Stitt refused to accept a one year deal or to allow any outside influence over who was part of his staff.

Proving his arrogance and Napoleon complex that will continue to drag us into an abyss. I would be fine keeping Stitt one more year but he HAS to make a change at his DC. Also, Stitt needs to remember the outside influence usually equals $$$$$ for the program, keep making excuses but we had a horribly week schedule this season, missed playoffs, couldn't beat the kittens and how many weeks were we ranked top 25 this year?

Haslem man up and get a replacement..Stitt proved he can't produce..yeah yeah he's got some great
recruits coming..doesn't mean squat!..do whats right and get this ship heading to victory lane..
