On a serious note, my theory is they told him to fire the 2 or they would do it themselves and include him in the firing, and like a true save-my-ass-firster, he complied. These kind of thoughts wouldn't have even crossed my mind if this would have been done a couple of months ago instead of now. They screwed this one up big time. And I'm not even that opposed to the actual firing itself.
This is another problem with the way this was done. Some peoples emotions are going to get out of control. I can understand some of your reaction, but if you step back and look at it your arguments kind of sound like the rants of a child. "Shitcan him, shitcan them, shitcan everyone" isn't a grown up response. That is what emotions do to people. I don't think there will ever be any transparency to this situation, and we'll probably never get an answer. The people complicit in this decision are also the same people who would have to demand the transparency, and that isn't going to happen. If there was wrong doing, we'll have to wait for a civil case to expose it. I also think Engstrom was spineless, whether he actually did make this decision himself or was ordered to do it, but I'll refrain from the emotional response. My concern is with the damage this is going to do to the program. I kind of expect the NCAA to have an extended stay here in town soon. In fact, I'm starting to expect that may be what brought this firing on.Tokyogriz said:

If the paper is correct and UM simply chose not to renew Plu and O'day's contracts, how is it wrongful termination. When a contract ends, the job is over unless the contract is renewed. I've heard alot of whining about lawsuits, but seems no one has yet to explain how someone can sue for not having their contract renewed.
Have you ever seen a good tort lawyer in action? They are ferocious. Unless there is some kind of smoking gun that we don't know about, a suit against the university could certainly be won regardless of the stated reason for the firing, or termination, or whatever you want to call it. Way too many questions surrounding this. Hope it doesn't happen, because in reality they are suing us also, not just the university.doebrmn said:

I'm amazed at the number of folk who seem to know that "...something had to be done." Fits the news with the Reverends Jackson & Sharpton who just "know" that Zimmerman is guilty. Justice by mob action...somehow I thought we were better than that. To believe one is guilty is now enough apparently rather than waiting for the judicial process.
