A reporter led in to the "grading a player or players" question a few games back when interviewing Stitt. I don't recall if there was someone specifically he was asked about or just the players in general. For some reason I think the reporter was referring to a questionable performance. (I very well could be wrong but this is the way I remember it so let me tell my story) Anyway Stitt said he didn't or wouldn't grade them (A,B,C) he would give them the "W" because that is the only letter that mattered.
Also, pretty sure he said the (no) field goal thing was on him.
There is certainly a fine line between shifting or taking responsibility and accountability. Has he suggested a few players could have done a thing or two differently? Yes. But he has also suggested he and his staff aren't right about their decisions 100% of the time.
It has to be kind of tough to answer some questions without naming a player and stating what they maybe could have done differently.
Anyway, albino, I'm not entirely positive you are wrong about Stitt shifting blame away from him, but I think and hope you are.
I am all for participation ribbons...don't want anyone to have hurt feelings....

Lets see, he spent 15 years in a small school in Colorado, a place many couldn't find on a map. The circulation of the local paper(IF there was one) was probably small. He probably didn't concern himself with parsing and weighing his every word. Now, he finds everthing out of his mouth is being disected and analyzed, quotes are taken out of context. Of course, the Missoulian's anti-Griz bias would not rear its head at every opportunity. This may just be a communication problem, something which never mattered before. He deserves the benefit of the doubt.
I wanted to tell Stitt last summer about the nasty and some times bitter comments the fans and press can make after a loss but how does one mention that to a brand new coach? He was after all very excited to be the new coach and all seemed rosy during that time!
Jim O-Day did try to tell coach Stitt about the job and some of the serious problems that he would encounter but again I think Stitt was so damn glad to be here he pushed all that aside.
About now coach Stitt is begining to feel the "pressure" of being the Griz head man.
Dead? Sugar sweet or bitter bad, all fans can and will spout off complaining after a loss and blabber slobber after a win. Dead? Lets get on with the next game. Perhaps we can vist a dead or alive subject depending on a win or loss??????

Something nobody has mentioned is that Stitt was used to coaching players that were a half step below rocket scientists on the mental scale. Not saying that this is a factor at the U of M, but it is something to consider.
