The 2001 DB coach for the NC Griz is making a lot of headlines after his Wolfpack team was canceled out by UCLA but 4 hours before gametime.

Have to love his characterization of the NCAA. UCLA would have been rolled healthy.

Kind of a tough look for the "Bowl games are meaningless" crowd. Seems like the players, coaches, and fans were all excited for the game.

I’m betting Waded called an emergency Athletic Department meeting as soon as this story broke.

"Everyone,

If you're reading this, you already know. The NCAA won't count it as a loss if we forfeit due to COVID protocols. We're all Bobcats, so you know the drill. We're in the Lewis & Clark Motel. Room 112. Bring a sewing machine, some blue fabric, and some yellow thread. We'll also need two grommets and 50 feet of rope. I love you. Waded."

This is the San Diego Credit Union Holiday Bowl. What did NC State lose? A week's worth of Andes Mints from a loan officer's desk? Come on.

Seems like they just wanted to play and compete like they've trained for all season. Oh, and it has a $6.5 million payout. Man, and I've spent a lot of my life thinking the FCS teams were the ones playing for the love of competing. Turns out it has to be "for" something more than winning.

Looks like the head coach was due to earn $25,000 for making it to a non CFP bowl game and another $50,000 for a win.

I’ve watched a lot of these “meaningless” bowl games. Kids suuuuure do seem excited when they win! Strange for meaningless games….

Yeah, congrats on winning the Tapatio Toilet Bowl. I’ll be watching a real postseason game in prime time on January 8 at 9am on ESPN+.

Meaningless Music City Bowl is a barn burner. Someone needs to tell these players and coaches and fans and everyone watching on ESPN that they’re playing for a participation trophy.

Edit: I doubt they’ll even play OT. What’s the point?

They already know, why do you think the top prospects "choose to miss this opportunity" to improve their draft status?

I think it’s to avoid possible injury to maintain their draft status which has been established. Many NFL prospects might be playing to try to improve their draft status, but it’s futile. I doubt any NFL scouts are watching these games.

There’s no way any of this is correct. There’s no money at the FBS level and we couldn’t afford to move. I know because I read it on eGriz.

And, well, playoffs!

NAIA is WAY more exciting than FBS. Because, dammit, we need to know who is number one. And true playoffs are the only way to provide true certainty. We don’t need all this ambiguity. No shades of gray. It’s a black and white world, pal.

So I see crying and moaning isn't just limited to litigation u. Fans over here, but also to ex-coaches of said school....🤦‍♂️

I always think it's hilarious that jealous petty people will piss on someone's bowl because of the sponser. The bottom line is that these are all Div I scholarship competitive athletes. They get an extra month of practice reps, a trip to somewhere warm and a chance to compete against other high end athletes. While guys like you sit on your couch and mock them and say it's meaningless.

Oh dear. Please tell me this is double sarcasm.
For the record, I love bowl games and think it’s ridiculous when people make fun of them. I was not being serious.
