Dave Doeren to NC St.

Just like his old boss, Joe Glenn, he knew he was leaving long before his final game was over.

Taking the new job before their bowl game was a dick move towards his players

It had to have been assumed Doreen wasn't going to be there long, and then he actually got his team ranked. Great job Doeren. I know he used to list his national championship with the griz as his greatest accomplishment---that was after being promoted to DC at Wisconsin.

That happens all the time. Part of the career. I'm sure his players understand. Doern can't wait until January to start recruiting, he just can't.

This happens pretty much every year with every opening that happens.. very rarely do coaches wait until January to move.. by then recruiting is shot.

Bottom line right there, on the recruiting season.

From a W-L standpoint, it would make sense to stay at NIU, where he could recruit to a high level for the MAC, win a bunch of games, and go to decent bowl. At NC State, where basketball is king, he must compete for recruits at a much higher level, won't win as many games, but will probably go to at least an equivalent bowl.

The difference: At NIU he made $370-420 (sources vary, probably based on incentives/bonuses). The current projections are that he will make about $1.8 million at NC State. No-brainer.

Money talks. Ethical considerations aside, if someone offered you 4X to 5X the current money you are making now, for doing the same thing, what would you do?

Gee ... that's a toughie.
NOT!

I see football scoop reports BCS coordinators will be hired at nc state.wonder if bob Cole is moving on as qb coach? Would really like to see him as the OC at UM, maybe even head coach in waiting.

Congrats to Doeren. Another in a long line on the Griz coaching tree. And FTR, ALOT of coaches people adore have done the exact thing Doeren is doing. Is he REALLY supposed to turn down a job in an BCS conference, along with what will amount to a multi-million dollar salary because of the timing of the bowl season? Seriously, I bet his 19-21 year-old players understand more than some of us supposed adults do. I don't see Notre Dame fans calling Brian Kelly a sleaze ball right now because when they got him, he had to do the same exact thing to Cincy!
