There's no need to call some student soft, or physically inferior, or whatever. He didn't work out. End of story.

One thing is for certain, Alpha knows what he is talking about on this one. It was not coaches, or injuries, or lack of effort that led to his departure. It was his personal decision and it wasn't an easy choice at that. I wish he didn't leave, but I wil respect the fact that he has his reasons for doing so.

I love to support this theory that Stitt is pissing off players and high school coaches around MT, however I know a HS coach that likes Stitt. And it's not a class c coach.

But I really would like it if everyone blames Stitt for Daum leaving. It's more fun this way.

Have to admit that I was looking forward to watching Daum play. Good Luck young man unless you head just east of the continental divide!

How can you feel "not a part of the team" when you are a red-shirt freshman who has not even played for the team yet? We could have used this talented athlete.

Great athlete and track guy but overrated on fb field....IMHO. Maybe a track scholarship awaits?
Best of luck to the young man.

This is terrific information, i.e. that you know one non-class c coach who likes Stitt. Thanks for sharing. You have always been such a nice contributor to egriz. I'm not sure I understand your more-fun comment, nor do I understand that why you would get your fun from something like that.

The Gazette is actually just reposting AJ's Missoulian article as AJ was the one who interviewed Daum. [tweet]https://twitter.com/ajmazzolini/status/708776455593832448[/tweet]

It's not, huh? Little grizzly? Haven't seen the "theory" about "high school coaches."

Chase Naccarato reflects the current feelings of many team members: "Stitt does not treat people well." Dalton Daum was so impressed by Stitt he changed from MSU to UM. Now, to leave a scholarship behind, and point directly to the "team" atmosphere as the reason, well that's hardly the "personal" decision that has nothing to do with the coach or the team. There's quite an assortment of current and former Griz accumulating public remarks that are not flattering. And, by the same token, team members on social media are silent about team prospects. Nobody talks about it any more. Even given the off-season, I have never seen the Griz this unenthusiastic.

I had gathered that Daum was quite a catch. Now, he's a recruiting story for somebody else.

Disagree with the comment that this team is unenthusiastic. The team has bought into the off season training and weight room sessions and it is paying off. The team is in better shape and more athletic than ever. Last year the average weight of the O-Line was around 280 lbs, right now it is 290 lbs with many 300 or greater.

No, this staff is doing great-they're tough and demand results but what winning D1 program doesn't? Please remember that its a huge jump from high school to college even if your a star. It requires a lot of time and effort-20 hours off season and 40+ in season. These kids work hard for the Griz.

Stats show that of every entering class only 25-30% finish as Seniors. These are young men and many just decide to do other things with their lives, football isn't as important to them. Winter conditioning is also a great place to informally see how you measure up against those in your position group. Maybe those new guys are just a little better...never know what motivates or doesn't motivate a teen age boy. Good luck to Mr. Daum but it's not our coaches fault, they're changing the culture of the program.
