Daum

Daum was not cut, he did leave on his own. Had major problems with Swett treating him like a piece of shit. Heard some of the other players under Swett not happy either. Think he may have to grow up and treat his players with the same recpect he demands. This guy has no idea how good Daum is. Not sure what Daum is going to do but I know there are schools out there that want him.

There could be a hundred reasons why he left the team, football related or not. He could catch on anywhere so until that happens it's a waste of time to speculate, if he ends up playing somewhere else around here this fall we'll know it was a team issue because he looked to have enough talent to get playing time the next few years.

We'll see how it plays out.

Saccat, Not everybody here is calling out Daum. But I will say it's just as lame to call out Stitt for this as it is to call out Daum. Neither are required to tell us anything if they don't want to about this situation. The fact is, Egrizzers are reporting Daum has quit the team. That's about it. He is still enrolled at UM, he was photographed in the team weight room very recently, he is still listed on the roster at gogriz.com, and his twitter, on which he posted less than an hour ago, still says he plays for the Griz football team and his # is 16.
That's exactly right, but note the rush for the exist that "the Player was lazy." How to avoid speculation? Put out a dam press release, if it is true, thank the player, and move on. This coach appears incapable of such small courtesies. He promotes speculation. With a virulently anti-player fan base, that is guaranteed to invite the worst speculation. What's the point of that? Just can't thank people?
So he should put out a press release stating that Daum has NOT left the team? Because other than on egriz I don't think this story is dominating the airwaves. The only 'virulently anti player fan base is a few knuckleheads here on egriz.

This isn't that hard. If the coach has a reputation for transparency, we'd expect that there's nothing to "the story." But, since he doesn't, the absence of information leads to speculation, because, SURPRISE! that's exactly what people do when a coach has a Nixonian penchant for secrecy.

Maybe Daum asked Stitt to say nothing???

And the last coach we had that had a "reputation for transparency" was??????

Daum quit and is gone. Depressed and Swett showing him no respect, the straw that broke the camel's back. May be burned out with football and go somewhere to play baseball. Apparently not the only one in that group that's unhappy.

There is, and has been since last spring, considerable noise out there about Coach Stitt's interactions with players (as well as some supporters). Some of you who are so positive on the new coach may want to do some checking around. It looks as if kemajic may have heard or experienced some of this.

Oh you mean the coaches aren't babying kids that are used to being the stars and getting their way at all costs....ya sounds like a real problem.

Daum wasn't a starter, so don't understand your babying kids who used to be starters. Hauck made the starters earn their positions again, and irritated them, but I don't think he sent many kids packing or ran off many. Some posters are showing once again that they never played the game, and don't have a clue about how teams and locker rooms work.

So locker rooms aren't used to house the players equipment and allow them a space to dress and shower after games? I guess I don't know how a locker room works in 2016. Playa must be transitioning his locker rooms for more of the Sandusky functions?

Again, I think the only "speculation" happening is here on eGriz. We're hardly representative of the fan base in general.

And if we stopped speculating on eGriz you might as well shut down the site. There wouldn't be any posts.

True. Everyone does their share of speculating....including 75.

Former Butte High track and football star Dalton Daum has left the Montana Grizzlies football team.

Calls to the University of Montana sports information department confirmed the news, but said no other information was available.

Daum redshirted this past season for the Griz under new coach Bob Stitt. Daum will reportedly finish out the semester at Montana.

Daum was an All-State player for the Butte High Bulldogs during his junior and senior seasons, and was a Second Team selection during his sophomore season.

In addition to his football skills, Daum is just as well known on the track, where he was Montana's back-to-back Gatorade Track and Field Athlete of the year in his junior and senior years, sweeping the 100- and 200-meter events at the state meet.

Attempts have been made to reach Daum about the decision, but were yet to be returned.

This story will be updated.

"I just wasn't happy there and never felt like I was apart (sic) of the team," Daum said in a message. This was quoted on the Missoulian....ouch

I wonder how much of that feeling was not knowing how to deal with not playing as a redshirt? A friend of mine redshirted in basketball at a div 1 school before joining the Air Force. He told us how he felt that way during his redshirt year. Like Daum, he ended up leaving the program.

Unfortunately for him, afterward he get a girl pregnant, got married young, and joined the military to support his young family. To this day, he regrets not trying to play his 1st year after redshirting. Fortunately for him, he turned out to be a great father, but that 1st marriage did not work for him.
