Since this thread is "Daum commits!", I thought it would be interesting to see how Daum stacks up to the current Griz players. It's only fair to use high school JR track times, since Daum's SR season has not commenced as of yet. And I will use their final race of the season.

It's unreal. Just glanced over at Bobcatnation, most guys are already thumping their chests again. It's amazing what can happen to a delusional fan base in a matter of 1.5 months.

Its why 60 is different than 30 (or 34 is different than six). They are numbers, and similar, but qualitatively and quantitatively, they are different.

Daum has been busting out strength & agility wouts consistently now the past month or so, still needs to up his intensity & get at it... hes improving though & think he will continue too. see him running 10.74 to 10.77 & 22.65to 22.69 this year. at best maybe 10.68 -10.69

I would think that getting a kid that was named All State 5 TIMES his SR year in football alone, 8 times all together in his football career...

And that same kid being one of the fastest kids in the state all 4 years of high school, every year on the podium in the 100 and 200 sprints -- a champion many times over, and Gatorade Track Athlete of the Year...

would be "worthy".

It can be very entertaining :shock: to sneak over to that board on occasions like Saturday when the Griz and Lady Griz have two convincing wins :lol: over the aggies. Here's a sample:

"Egriz" has its moments, but Wombat Nation has a lot more of them, and they are much more extreme. Mostly, it is humorous to watch as they wallow in self-pity, in particular after they spend pre-seasons boosting themselves to ever greater hallucinations of greatness. When McGhee was injured a couple of years ago, there was the bizarre spectacle on those boards of claims that the Cats would likely play even stronger without McGhee, that backup Jake Bleskin was actually their secret weapon, now to be unleashed. They have far more than their fair share of "wow" moments like that one.

The imaginary "power shift" had gone not just to their heads, but apparently through them.

The Great Meltdown after the Griz Cat game was, however, something else again. I have never, on any board, seen such a vicious display of venom directed toward their own coach, the hapless quarterback kid, the team, the refs, the cheating Griz, the unethical mascot, the immoral cheerleaders, the weather, bad hot dogs, cruel fate and on and on. Truly, it was appalling. There was no "sport" on that Board, nor "sportsmanship."

He was told he could compete right away, and if he was good enough to beat out existing players he could see the field as a true Freshman. But I seriously doubt he would have been able to do that, and I'm pretty sure there's no way he would have beat out any of our starters. In case you didn't notice, we're pretty damn good, and young on O with the line and skill positions. Our only problems are on D. This isn't a "we didn't want him anyway" post, because we did. He'll have a much better chance of avoiding a red shirt at UM.

All this being said, the decision has nothing to do with Stitt, other than the fact that Stitt made the decision to invest a full schollie in him whereas Delany didn't. He always wanted to play for the griz, so it was a done deal once you went with a full offer as we had done.

I actually thought the Cats skill players looked really average. I wouldn't be excited about your skill positions if Mitch Griebel is your leading receiver.... Herbert is talented but isn't a burner and would probably be better off putting on some weight and playing TE.

I'm sure Ash was hoping for Daum to be able to contribute right away. Because the cat receivers are slow and really not that talented. Without Prukop, that offense is garbage.

LOL. Herbert is actually pretty fast. Griebal is very fast. Justin Paige is likely the fastest player in the conference and one of the fastest players in the country. He injured his ankle against Cal Poly but if you don't thing he is an absolute burner, you don't follow the CATS very closely, which is understandable. :lol:

Sorry man, they're not that good.

Your coaches telling Daum he could make an impact as a freshman is all you need to know about your burners at WR. Daum won't see the field at UM next year.

I disagree, Daum will see the field next year at UM. The only reciever that can run with Daum (HS sprints) is Walcott. No Griz DBs are as fast as Daum either.

Daum is too athletic and skilled to red-shirt at UM.

My only question is what number will he be? Because he was #15 at BHS. And we all know #15 is retired at UM in honor of The Legend, Dave Dickinson! :clap:
