Here’s to a monster senior campaign. Best of luck Dante.

Wasn't Buss the only FCS player last year on this list?

Yes he was. Linebacker U in Zoo town. Has been for a long time.

Dante also got the Hero Sports Best Player to Wear #33. Just a stud!

It will be a challenge for Dante to replicate last year's numbers. Our overall defense was not great; it depended heavily on him for the tackles. It also allowed many long drives that provided him endless opportunities for tackles.

For this year, I expect significant improvement in our overall defense and more competition for the tackles. Hopefully, we will see better abilities to stall drives earlier than last year. Also the offense will be better with hopefully an improved running game which can extend our own drives better. A better TOP balance for the Griz would have Dante on the field less time. All good for the Griz and Dante, but even with the 12 game schedule, I'm betting we will need a playoff run for Dante to outshine last year's numbers. We know these recognition awards are about numbers, because most won't see him play.

The defensive scheme helps Dante get a lot of those tackles.

Absolutely right. The backers and safeties are the hero’s here. But remember that he’s still got to get to the ball carrier, usually through a block or two. They aren’t funneling things to him, he had to make each and every play.

Let’s hope all that comes true. I’m sure he’d forego all the individual awards for a deep playoff run. :thumb:

So, he EXACTLY replicates last year's unreal numbers with 151 more tackles this year....but somehow didn't make the cut for the finalist list.

Not sure what the committee was expecting? Apparently 151 was enough to GET him on the list, but not KEEP him on the list...

That linebacker from CAL blew Dante out of the water this year. The one from Spokane, Weaver I think it is. He was over 160 Tackles a week ago. Not surprised he didn't make the finalist here.

Funny how Dante gets all these accolades from national writers, but doesn’t win defensive player of the year in the BSC! Pisses me off!

Agreed there rocklobster.

Think Sterk made the list. He must have a much better PR agent than Olson. Olson spends too much time studying and helping/mentoring kids. He doesn't spend enough time tooting his horn, like Sterk does.

I think both Dante and Stirk are Buchanan finalists?

And PR us right. I don't know Stirk but I do know Dante and I have never known a more selfless, humble, caring and giving player that has had the success he has on the field.
